The event will be accompanied with catering from Jerusalem garden!

Forks Over Knives empowers people to live healthier lives by changing the way the world understands nutrition. As science has shown, chronic conditions like heart disease and type 2 diabetes can be prevented, halted, and often reversed by making one change that requires no prescription and is accessible to all: leaving animal-based and highly refined foods off the plate and adopting a whole-food, plant-based diet instead.

The documentary will be accompanied by a Q&A with Marc Ramirez, a former UM Football Player whose life was drastically changed after watching the film. Through the power of food, Marc reversed his type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, erectile dysfunction, psoriasis, frequent heartburn, and lost 70 pounds.

October class registration now open! https://events.umich.edu/event/55611
During this 4-session class you will be introduced to the practice of mindfulness and learn several skills, including meditation, for managing stress and enriching your life. Mindfulness is about developing the ability to be fully attentive to all the moments of your life, reducing the amount of time you spend worrying about the future or fretting about the past. An important aspect of mindfulness is developing a non-judgmental, accepting, even curious, attitude about your moment-to-moment experience. The more you develop this attitude, the less you will feel overwhelmed by changes and challenges in your life.

Koru is designed to introduce you to the practice of mindfulness and get you well on your way to developing this important skill. Like learning any new skill, it takes practice to get comfortable with mindfulness. We invite you to devote yourself to the study and practice of mindfulness over the next four weeks, and we challenge you to stay curious about what evolves for you as you persistently and patiently practice living mindfully. We also have a free mobile app to track meditation practices for this course!

For any questions, please contact Hitomi Katsumi at hkat@umich.edu.

@ Ann Arbor District Library Meeting Room (343 S. Fifth Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48104)

*Registration Closed. Contact hkat@umich.edu for future 4-week sessions.*

Thursdays from 4:00 - 5:30pm (10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25)
@ Angel Hall G243 (Ground Floor)

*Registration Closed. Contact hkat@umich.edu for future 4-week sessions.*

Thursdays from 4:00 - 5:30pm (10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25)
@ Angel Hall G243 (Ground Floor)

Would you like the opportunity to try some shorter meditation sittings with time for questions and answers afterwards? If so, then please come to one of our Introductory Mindfulness sessions. We will start with a short (5-10 minute) body scan, followed by some discussion time, and then follow this with a short (5-10 minute) following of your breath. You are welcome to attend as many of these sessions as you like, but the format will be essentially the same.

Join us as we celebrate our 200th Adderley Positive Research Incubator presentation!

Research is the heart of Positive Organizational Scholarship (POS), and we want to make sure that we support each other in developing high quality research. To that end, we created the Adderley Positive Research Incubator for sharing and encouraging POS-related research ideas that are at various stages of development.

Since our first gathering in 2004, the Adderley Positive Research Incubator has enabled 120+ researchers in the field of Positive Organizational Scholarship to share research ideas while still in development. This safe space encourages the development of high-quality research and allows for positive, constructive feedback on projects still in progress.

About the talk
This presentation will provide an overview of survey data and intervention research by the Healthy Minds Network, a large-scale research initiative to improve understanding of mental health and help-seeking in adolescent and young adult populations, particularly college students.

About Eisenberg
Daniel Eisenberg is S. J. Axelrod Collegiate Professor of Health Management and Policy in the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan, where he is also affiliated with the Population Studies Center and the Comprehensive Depression Center.

His training is in economics and mental health services research. His broad research goal is to improve understanding of how to invest effectively in the mental health of young people, particularly college students. He directs the Healthy Minds Network (HMN) for Research on Adolescent and Young Adult Mental Health (www.healthymindsnetwork.org), which administers the Healthy Minds Study, a national survey study of student mental health and related factors.

Organized By: Eisenberg Family Depression Center

College and graduate students will learn about different factors that can impact mental health, share strategies for managing the stress of college and graduate life, and speak with other students about challenges and successes.

The Campus Mind Works groups are open to all U-M students, and held bi-monthly from October-April on North and Central campuses. These FREE education/support groups are a service of the U-M Depression Center in partnership with the College of Engineering and the Newnan Academic Advising Center, and are run by clinical staff from the U-M Department of Psychiatry. The groups are designed for education and support purposes only, and are not intended to be a substitute for medical or mental health treatment.

No pre-registration is required. Refreshments will be provided.
