Yelp’s mission is to connect people with great local businesses, and one of the teams working behind the scenes to make that happen is our five star engineering and product teams.

Playing an active role in our community is a value that we have strongly prioritized over the years. Typically we would invite you to come to Yelp’s HQ to network, grab a slice of ‘za, and learn about the technology and culture behind Yelp. With stay-at-home orders across the globe, Yelp (like many of you) has had no choice but to adapt to these changes. We understand that this is a strange and challenging time for many, so we’d like to invite you to join us as we navigate this new normal for the tech community together.

Tostay connected, create space for folks to collaborate and share some of the things Yelp has been working on, we are launching our very own virtual tech talk series. This series of talks will feature Yelpers from engineering and product and will focus on themes such as career development, technical skills, workplace challenges and Yelp’s response to COVID-19.

Talk: How AWEsome is this?

Salesforce Research Speaker Series: Robustness Gym: Evaluating NLPModels Using Data Slices (October 23, 2020 10:00am) https://events.umich.edu/event/78697 78697-20107387@events.umich.edu Event Begins: Friday, October 23, 2020 10:00am

Join Nazneen Rajani in this week's speaker series focused on Evaluating NLP Models Using Data Slices.

Abstract:
Deep neural networkshave proven powerful for various NLP tasks on (large) datasets, but are often not robust to (adversarial) data corruptions, distribution shifts, and other harmful data manipulations. In practice, this can lead to severe vulnerabilities, limited successful generalization to unseen data, and hinder safe deployment. While practitioners are increasingly aware of these problems, the common paradigm of reporting model performance continues to rely on the train-val-test i.i.d. splits.

In this talk, I will introduce the Robustness Gym: an easy-to-use and extendable framework to concisely evaluate the robustness and diagnose model vulnerabilities using data slices, i.e., user-defined splits or transformation of evaluation data, on a wide range of NLP tasks in both classification and generation. Data slices are generic and can represent, for example, semantic sub-populations (gender, age splits), augmentations (sub-word substitutions), adversarial attacks, or statistical splits (e.g., by word frequency).

Our framework is flexible and enables users to programmatically define and evaluate on data slices.

The Robustness Gym provides an overview of model performance on data slices and supports a wide variety of evaluation metrics, including accuracy, precision-recall, and fairness metrics. Our framework can also evaluate model robustness under dataset manipulations, including a range of adversarial attacks, data-augmentations, and different evaluation sets such as stress tests and contrast sets.

My name is Josh Coco and I’m the Executive Director at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami and we wanted to let you know that apps are open for our PhD (fully funded), Master of Science, and Master of Professional Science (MPS) degree for Spring and Fall 2021 (PhD/MS apps for Fall 2021 will open in early October). PhD Assistantships can be found here: https://graduate.rsmas.miami.edu/admissions/phd-assistanships/index.html. The majority of Ph.D. students are supported as Graduate Research Assistants during their tenure (typically 5 years). These assistantshipsprovide an annual salary of $30,312, and tuition and health insurance are provided for all students. Fall 2021 applications received prior to January 1, 2021 will be reviewed. In order to increase the chance of an assistantship, applications are encouraged by December 1, 2020. There will be many more added over the course of the Fall semester (check back weekly), so please contact faculty and also know some assistantships are not listed and faculty do choose based off the applications the school receives. GRE is still currently required for PhD/MS application, but this may be waived in the near future (currently being reviewed by faculty) so please check the website or reach out to me with questions.

Our MPS degree (take the same courses as Ph.D. and MS students, but instead of a thesis/dissertation, you do an internship/research in the field with organizations such as NOAA, National Parks Service, NGOs, etc. and 94% of students have a job in the field 6 months after graduation) has rolling admission until June for international students and July for domestic. You can also haveyour application reviewed for no extra cost by checking the box for MPS on the PhD/MS application (allowing you to have multiple options for only 1app fee). We are also waiving the GRE for Spring and Fall 2021 for MPS (tuition waivers will be based on GPA and GPA/GRE if GRE helps you). I have listed all 14 tracks below:

Saga Education has dedicated itself to providing high-dosage, in-school tutoring in partnership with public high schools. Since our founding, Saga Education and our tutoring fellows have served over 12,600 students across Chicago, New York City, Washington, D.C, and Broward County.

Nationwide, students are experiencing a significant interruption in their formal education due to COVID-19 and resultingschool closures. While educators and students alike have many unprecedented challenges to overcome this upcoming school year, educators report that their top concern is students falling behind in math. This concern is heightened for educators in high poverty districts who teach predominantly black or Latinx students.

Now more than ever we need talented, caring, and capable people committed to supporting our students in their academicand social development. Finding academic interventions that address inequities that historically underserved students face is one of our nation’smost urgent challenges.

This is an open discussion about the roles that we offer. In avariety of topics including sales, marketing, valuations, and human resources (HR) management.

Most of the roles develop skills that are highly transferable to any industry, but we are a real estate company, and Iam an agent that sells businesses that own or lease real estate. I am a "business broker".

It's unlikely that a lot of people will attend, so we will just talk as if I had reserved a room and you stopped by to say hello If there are a lot of people, we will mute everyone's mic and let interns post questions and comments via the chat bar.
