The Middle Eastern/North African Student (ME/NA) Celebration is the celebratory program that highlights ME/NA graduates at the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint at the conclusion of every academic year. The ceremony was born out of a need to recognize the large population of previously unrecognized Middle Eastern/North African student graduates. The mission of the program is to recognize them, their achievements, and the cultural significance of the ME/NA community, while providing incentive to future students to reach the ultimate goal of graduation.

On this day, join us as we come together to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating seniors, as well as show respect to everyone who helped them make this possible, including friends, faculty, staff, administrators, and family members.

To register for ME/NA 2020 and request additional tickets, complete an application at umichoami.fluidreview.com

All Spring 2020 U-M commencement ceremonies have been canceled to limit the potential spread of respiratory viruses and safeguard those at highest risk of catching COVID-19.

The 2020 Stamps Commencement celebration will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 2 at North Campus Research Complex Building 18. The celebration includes short speeches by graduating undergraduate and graduate students and a commencement address by Stamps alumna Patrice Martin (BFA ‘99), CEO and Co-founder, The Holding Co.

About Patrice Martin

Patrice is the CEO and Co-founder of The Holding Co., a lab re-designing how we care for each other in the 21st century. In collaboration with IDEO and Pivotal Ventures, the incubation and investment company by Melinda Gates, The Holding Co. partners with innovators–for-profit, nonprofit, and government, alike–to build systemic solutions to care and make women and family’s lives more functional and joyful. Think: new technology to age in place, new services to ease household labor, more affordable and higher quality childcare, and more.

Patrice is also the co-founder of IDEO.org, the non-profit design organization launched from IDEO in 2011. Patrice built the organization into a thriving center for design thinking in the social sector through work with partners across the issues of reproductive health, financial inclusion, early childhood development, and more. At IDEO.org Patrice also created Design Kit, a digital platform teaching human-centered design, serving more than one million learners.

Before founding IDEO.org, Patrice was a Design Director with IDEO where she led teams focused on large-scale systems change in the private and social sectors. Patrice now serves on the Board of Directors for Juma Ventures and the Advisory Board for Freedom Forward. Patrice holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan.

Organisms have evolved an internal biological clock which allows them to temporally regulate and organize their physiological and behavioral responses to cope in an optimal way with the fundamentally periodic nature of the environment. It is now well established that the molecular genetics of such rhythms within the cell consist of interwoven transcriptional-translational feedback loops involving about 15 clock genes, which generate circa 24-h oscillations in many cellular functions at cell population or whole organism levels. We will present statistical methods and modelling approaches that address newly emerging large circadian data sets, namely spatio-temporal gene expression in SCN neurons and rest-activity actigraph data obtained from non-invasive e-monitoring, both of which provide unique opportunities for furthering progress in understanding the synchronicity of circadian pacemaking and address implications for monitoring patients in chronotherapeutic healthcare.
