(VIRTUAL): CEW+Inspire Midweek Mindfulness-Guided Sits (August 5, 2020 12:15pm) https://events.umich.edu/event/64874 64874-18992308@events.umich.edu Event Begins: Wednesday, August 5, 2020 12:15pm
Location: Off Campus Location
Organized By: CEW+

As part of the CEW+Inspire initiative, CEW+ holds mindful meditation sits virtually on Wednesdays at 12:15.

Being present in the moment is a skill that can be learned when practiced on a regular basis and is especially important during these trying times. Psychological stress can damper your overall health, affecting your ability to remain resilient in the face of challenges. Evidence-based meditation has been shown to also reduce implicit age and race bias, reduce the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and pain, improve cognitive functioning, and assist in ending ruminating thought patterns.

Free and open to all levels of practice.

After registering, please check your email confirmation for the Zoom link!

Long lines, freebies, and lots of students suited up-it can only be one thing, it's Career Fair season! HOWEVER, this year's event will be much different. The Career Fair will be held held virtually. What does that mean?!

A Virtual Career Fair can feel intimidating, not only based of the volume of employers and candidates attending but also because of the inability for us to gather in large groups right now. This workshop will address all aspects of attending a Virtual Career Fair including appropriate dress, questions to ask employers, managing your time and technology, and how to prepare in order to make the BEST impression with employers.

Over the course of 182 years, they’ve challenged convention, led innovation, and helped shape culture by combining “what’s needed” with “what’s possible”. Even with having over 20 brands that have more than one billion dollars each in net annual sales, our people are P&G’s most valuable asset. Much like our brands, we’re committed to finding and developing world-class leaders since leadership is one of our core values and an integral factor in our company’s success.

From early on, you’ll be at the core of breakthrough innovations, be given exciting assignments, lead initiatives, and take ownership and responsibility. And you’ll do this in creative work spaces where new ideas flourish. All the while, you’ll receive world-class training to help you become a leader in your field. And it’s not just about what you’ll do, but how you’ll feel: welcomed, valued, purposeful, challenged, heard, and inspired.

P&G invites students of all levels (Freshmen through PhD) to participate in our Virtual Career Day event to learn about exciting internship and full-time positions from U-M alumni that have tremendous passion about what they do and why. By participating in P&G’s Virtual Career Day, students will be able to discuss their career interests, share résumés, and learn about opportunities at Procter & Gamble in a relaxed setting before the Fall Career Fair. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without an employer-sponsored petition for a visa.

Due to Fall 2020 public health disruptions, the Academic Year in Freiburg (AYF) program is offering a special Winter-only term, running from March 1 to August 6, 2021.

By studying in Freiburg, you can practically earn credits for a German major and may possibly get distribution credits and/or credits towards a second major; and you will live in one of the most attractive and desired places in Germany. This program is open to all University of Michigan undergraduate students.

Eligibility:
* Minimum 3.0 GPA
* Good academic standing
* Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing by Winter 2021
* Completion of German 232 or equivalent prior to January 2021

Tuition for this program is covered by a program fee ($9,000), and students receive University of Michigan in-residence credit for the courses they take during the term in Freiburg. Students will not pay University of Michigan tuition. Additional costs include travel, room, and board. The latter two are considerably cheaper than housing in Ann Arbor is. You will live in a single in a student dorm in Freiburg.

Students remain eligible for financial aid. In addition, the German Department will reduce the program fee for all applicants. Further funding opportunities are available from the department as well; to inquire, please contact germandept@umich.edu.

The regular Academic Year in Freiburg (AYF) 2021/2022 program is scheduled to take place. The registration deadline will be December 1, 2020. Registrations for that program will be accessible later in September.

Beat the cold Michigan winters and study abroad somewhere else next year. The Tübingen program, which is organized through the Center for Global and Intercultural Studies (CGIS), takes place in the Winter term, and it is intended for students who have completed at least German 221/231 by the end of the Fall 2020 term.

The German department strongly recommends that you precede your stay in Tübingen by attending one or two four-week sessions at the Goethe Institut. This Goethe Institut segment is not part of the CGIS program itself. Please talk with an undergraduate advisor in German about the Goethe segment.

The CGIS portion in Tübingen will start early in March with a mandatory "Kompaktkurs" (6 credits) or a "Startkurs" (3 credits). While you will be enrolled for the Winter 2021 term at the University of Michigan, you will then take classes during "Sommersemester" at the Universität Tübingen (mid April - late July). You will earn 15-18 credits for Winter 2021: the courses that you take in Tübingen can be language courses for international students or regular university courses. Various university courses outside the English Department are taught in English.

Tübingen credits can be used to satisfy degree requirements for a German major or minor.

Please note that you must attend a First Step session in order to study abroad with CGIS (https://lsa.umich.edu/cgis/undergraduate-students/getting-started0.html).

The study and learning strategies students often bring to college are often insufficient to help them succeed at the university level. Particularly in challenging STEM courses, students can't simply memorize or cram their way to a good grade. This workshop will focus on the popular learning strategies to avoid, as well as the top three strategies you don't know but are shown by research to be the most effective for long-term learning.
