Organized By: Wolverine Support Network

Wolverine Support Network (WSN) is a club that empowers University of Michigan students to create an inclusive community and support each other’s identity, mental well-being, and day-to-day lives. WSN facilitates 40+ cost-free, confidential peer-led support groups across campus, for both undergraduate and graduate students that fit within students’ own availability. WSN also holds community-building events to foster connection among those within the WSN community and beyond.

The Organizing Team is a way for individuals to get involved in more of the behind-the-scenes work of WSN by helping with mental health programming on campus. There are 5 committees that you can apply to:

Campus Partnerships - facilitates relationships between WSN and other campus orgs, professors, and U-M students.
Strategy - creates business and marketing strategy, particularly for fundraising; manage social media and design.
Speaker Series - plans and executes WSN's first speaker event which is intended to share stories of mental health experiences on campus.
Organizational Culture - focuses on building community through awareness and self-care events as well as facilitating bonding activities.
Voices - works on the WSN podcast, blog, and other types of dialogue-centered outlets.

Winter 2022 semester OT applications are open through January 17th and can be found at umichwsn.org/ot-application. If you're interested in joining a peer-led support group, visit umichwsn.org/join. Please feel free to contact wsndirectors@umich.edu with any questions!

Location: Off Campus Location
Organized By: Center for Connected and Automated Transportation

The Transportation Research Board 101st Annual Meeting returns January 2022 and, as in years past, the University of Michigan will be hosting a free networking reception! This event will take place at Right Proper Brewing Company (624 T Street NW, Washington, DC 20001). It's a brief, 15-minute walk (or other mobility solution!) from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Dr. James Sayer, Director of UMTRI, will provide a brief presentation on the Institute's strategic plan and vision for the future. Attendees will have the opportunity to register for the 2022 CCAT Global Symposium (April 12-13, 2022) at a discounted rate.

Attendance requires proof of full vaccination from COVID-19 on-site. Full vaccination is defined as two weeks after the second dose of an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech/Moderna) or two weeks after a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. A representative from Right Proper Brewing Company will be checking vaccination cards at the door (a scan is acceptable).

This free reception is hosted by the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI), the Center for Connected and Automated Transportation (CCAT), and the Civil and Environmental Engineering department at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Space is limited!

What is networking? Why is it a worthwhile exercise? Career networking is an important way to learn more about fields you’re interested in, find new opportunities, and advance your career. In fact, LinkedIn reports that 61% of professionals agree that regular online interaction with their professional network can open up possible job opportunities. This hour-long workshop, we’ll cover the essentials of how to introduce yourself, grow authentic connections, and build an active network.

This live virtual discussion led by a Hub coach will cover ways to approach conversations with employer reps, recruiters, alums, and other professionals; examples of things to say while networking; an introduction into LSA Connect— the college’s career networking and mentoring platform.

You should attend this workshop if you are:
-A liberal arts and/or sciences (LSA) student
-Open to networking and hoping for some additional pointers
-Seeking tips on how to introduce yourself to professionals in industries you’re interested in exploring
Looking to form long-lasting connections with potential mentors

What you’ll gain by attending:
-Learn about the overarching purpose and goals of networking.
-Discuss your concerns around networking and strategize on how to address them.
-Identify what networks you already have access to and who you want to connect with.
-Brainstorm effective introductory messages to grow your network.

Interaction Level: Moderate

RSVP now to reserve your spot! The link to join this workshop will be emailed to you 24 hours before the event.

The LSA Opportunity Hub aims to deliver inclusive and accessible experiences and welcomes all LSA students to participate. This event will be hosted on Zoom (learn more about Zoom accessibility) and can be accessed by phone or computer. Location: Power Center for the Performing Arts
Organized By: TEDxUofM

TEDxUofM is a university-wide initiative to galvanize the community for an event like no other; filled with inspiration, discovery, and excitement. Borrowing the template from the world-renowned TED conference, TEDxUofM aims to bring a TED-like experience to the University of Michigan. Our vision is to showcase the most fascinating thinkers and doers, the “leaders and best” in Michigan terms, for a stimulating day of presentations, discussions, entertainment, and art that will spark new ideas and opportunities across all disciplines. Our conference will feature 8 speakers, 3 performing groups, and interactive labs/activities for attendees!

Our theme for this year’s conference is SHATTERPROOF. Through a time of fragmentation and dissonance, individuals and communities have showcased an incredible ability to withstand adversity. Resilience is found in all of us despite the size of the challenge. We use our voices to empower each other. We use ideas to drive us forward. We refuse to crack under pressure. We are shatterproof. As we set the stage with this spirit, our goal is for attendees to discover what being shatterproof means to them.

Visit www.tedxuofm.com to get tickets to our Conference!

This month’s Togetherness event will be held virtually. A meal will be provided for all attendees via a Panera voucher given at the start of the event and useable the following weekend.

The Togetherness: QTBIPOC Gatherings are a collaboration between MESA and the Spectrum Center focusing on centering the experiences of Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and Students of Color through sharing meals, discussions, and creating connections with people in the QTBIPOC community at UM and in the surrounding areas.

This event’s host will be Raivynn Smith. Raivynn Smith is an Adult Services Librarian at the Durham County Library in Durham, NC. Born in Ohio, they have moved around quite a bit in pursuit of education and the perfect scoop of ice cream. They previously worked at the Spectrum Center, and would love to talk about doing anti-oppressive work and maintaining boundaries in libraries and higher education with whoever is interested! When not roaming the stacks, they enjoy reading (of course!), listening to almost every genre of music, going for hikes, baking, and hanging out with their partner and dog.
