Heartfulness Guided Meditation (April 21, 2023 12:00pm) https://events.umich.edu/event/88544 88544-21803330@events.umich.edu Event Begins: Friday, April 21, 2023 12:00pm
Location: Off Campus Location
Organized By: Information and Technology Services (ITS)

Heartfulness Guided Meditation is a weekly, drop-in program designed to help you nourish your spirit and heal your body and mind.

All U-M students, faculty, and staff are welcome to participate in guided meditation practice with a trainer every Friday at noon over Zoom (details to join are provided below). No prior experience with meditation is required.

Advanced Wellness techniques are taught on the first Friday of the Month and that session will be about 45 mins.

*What will you learn?*

The guided meditation practice involves three simple steps: relaxation, rejuvenation, and meditation.

Relaxation brings your body to a calm, steady posture creating a stillness at the physical level, and prepares the mind for meditation. We follow this with a rejuvenation method to detox the mind to let go of stress and complex emotions, and will leave you feeling light and refreshed. Lastly, learning to meditate by being mindful of your heart will connect you with yourself by listening to your heart’s voice.

*Why Meditate?*

While physical fitness keeps our bodies in shape, meditation is an exercise for the mind and mental wellness. In addition to the measurable benefits mentally and physically, many people benefit from an unquantifiable inner poise and harmony.

In this participatory public event, Marsae Lynette presents an evening of film, performance, and community.

This interactive event invites the local community to reconnect with freshwater sources such as the Huron River, as well as one another through reflection, restoration, and jubilation. Audience members are invited to both witness and engage in rituals of reconnection.

Kresge Gilda Award Recipient Marsae Lynette is a dancer, educator, and ethnochoreologist whose research explores the ecological interdependence of women of the African diaspora and freshwater sources through the lens of embodied intelligence and spirituality.

The evening’s journey includes:

– Opening ceremony and intention-setting
– 30-minute film viewing
– Dance performance
– Sunset processional to the Huron River and return to the Freighthouse to conclude

The artist invites audience members to dress in all-white attire.

Join us in community to practice mindfulness meditation, a life-enhancing skill that can be learned with consistent practice. This formal, largely-guided, practice utilizes evidence-based cognitive training that bolsters one's ability to handle stress, poor mood, and threat.  This weekly mindfulness practice encourages present moment, non-judgemental, awareness – noticing where your focus and attention are and continually inviting attention to current mind and body sensations in a kind and compassionate way.

Mindfulness meditation opens the possibility to pause, gain perspective, attend to the present, and respond accordingly. In our ever-changing, complex, and challenging world, mindfulness can provide grounding. As one form of contemplative practice, mindfulness meditation can offer a framework to support a more skillful approach to navigating the demands of being human and support practitioners to build resilience and take compassionate action.

Whether you are new to mindfulness meditation or are an experienced practitioner, each session is designed to offer guidance and support to assist you. All are welcome to attend weekly or drop-in as their schedule allows.

Heartfulness Guided Meditation (June 2, 2023 12:00pm) https://events.umich.edu/event/88544 88544-21803336@events.umich.edu Event Begins: Friday, June 2, 2023 12:00pm

Heartfulness Guided Meditation (June 16, 2023 12:00pm) https://events.umich.edu/event/88544 88544-21803338@events.umich.edu Event Begins: Friday, June 16, 2023 12:00pm

Heartfulness Guided Meditation (June 23, 2023 12:00pm) https://events.umich.edu/event/88544 88544-21803339@events.umich.edu Event Begins: Friday, June 23, 2023 12:00pm
