Campus Mind Works wellness groups are free drop-in wellness groups for U-M students that provide mental health education and support. These groups are facilitated by a U-M employee. The first half is an educational presentation on a mental health topic and a support group follows during the second half. Topics change every month depending on student needs.

College and graduate students will learn about different factors that can impact mental health, share strategies for managing the stress of college and graduate life, and speak with other students about challenges and successes.

For fall 2020, all groups will be held virtually through Zoom. Registration per event is required.

Following the live group presentation, the asynchronous presentation will be updated at www.campusmindworks.org.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Group Therapy - Winter 2021 (January 30, 2021 10:00am) https://events.umich.edu/event/78346 78346-20783454@events.umich.edu Event Begins: Saturday, January 30, 2021 10:00am
Location: Off Campus Location
Organized By: University Psychological Clinic

The University Psychological Clinic is offering a Saturday session of the Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) group.

Join the Psych Clinic for an eight-week MBCT group starting on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021. The MBCT group serves as treatment for people with depression as well as other mental health conditions. While the chemical and physical aspects of depression and other mental health disorders are far more complex than just feeling down, current research supports a cognitive approach as a way to change patterns of brain functioning and build resilience in people struggling with chronic depression.

This program uses a combination of cognitive therapy and mindfulness to help participants form new, healthier modes of thought. MBCT initiates a cognitive change that helps clients move past events that have the potential to trigger relapse. Participants learn how to view their thoughts without judgment.

If you are interested in attending or referring a potential group participant, please contact the Psychological Clinic to begin the process. Call (734) 764-3471 to schedule a screening. Alternately, you can contact the clinic through the website form, found here: https://mari.umich.edu/psych-clinic/contact-us.

If you missed the start of this session or are interested in a group at a different time or on a different day, please contact us! We have ongoing groups and can organize new sessions based on demand.

Healing Justice: Fabric of Community (March 5, 2021 2:00pm) https://events.umich.edu/event/82340 82340-21068622@events.umich.edu Event Begins: Friday, March 5, 2021 2:00pm

Gain some perspective as we dig deep into the power of Meaning! How do you find meaning in your life, and how do different identities we hold play a role in how we find meaning? We will be exploring this through two separate workshops led by CAPS "Healing Justice: Holistic Self-Care During Challenging Times ".

U-M Counseling and Psychological Services will offer two workshops (“Healing Justice in the Fabric of Community” and “Healing Justice: Rediscovering Spirit” ) which focus on components of Loretta Pyles’ (2018) Healing Justice: Self-Care for Change Makers.

This Fabric of Community session will work towards defining ourselves through the health and wealth of our neighbors, community and planet. There is an emphasis on 1) healing one's community while in community; 2) community resilience; and 3) collective efficacy--the belief that neighbors or groups of citizens can change their situations and be effective in organized community action.

All students (undergraduate, graduate and professional) are invited to attend this powerful session!

To be true to healing justice, it’s vital to highlight its origins. The movement was originally created by queer folx, BIPOC, women and those with disabilities starting from the 60s with a resurgence in the late 2000s. U-M participants will learn ways of healing “a sense of brokenness or disconnection that may be a result of trauma, oppressive socio-cultural narratives and practices or the ways in which humans may lose touch with each other and themselves.”
