Jones has more than twenty years of experience as a performer\, musician\, storyteller\, radio producer/host and music educator. He has opened for and played with some of the finest musicians in the world. Still\, Robert considers his greatest honor to be his call to the gospel of ministry. He was born in Detroit\, Michigan in 1956. His father was from West Pointe\, Mississippi and his mother hailed from Conecuh County\, Alabama. He grew up listening to and loving a wide variety of music\, especially the blues. Influenced by legendary bluesman Willie Dixon\, Robert developed an educational program called Blues For Schools. This program has literally taken him into classrooms all over the country\, and for approximately the next 15 years Robert polished his craft as both as a performer and a music educator. He's joined by Bernice Jones\, whom he married in 1986. She obtained a master of science degree at the University of Concepcion Chile and a master of science and Ph.D. at the University of Washington. Her work focuses on environmental stressors affecting Great Lakes ecosystems.\n\nShe did not pursue academic training in the arts but she has been painting for as long as she has been a scientist.\n\nAt the University of Michigan\, she has taught courses bridging arts and sciences at the School of Art & Design and the Residential College\, and has organized and participated in events to immerse the arts within the endeavors of a research university. Her works have been published in books and magazines\; shown in galleries and museums in Chile\, Europe\, Canada and the United States\; and are part of public and private art collections.\n\nShe is a visiting artist at the Washington Street Gallery in Ann Arbor.\n\nIn 2001\, Adlerstein moved to Ann Arbor with her husband\, Edgar Meyhofer\, a professor of Mechanical Engineering and Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the U-M College of Engineering. As such I have developed my own mixed media techniques and my research influences the subject of my paintings. The process has been magical\, nurturing and informative.\"\n\nAt the School of Natural Resources and Environment\, Adlerstein is an applied aquatic ecologist in the school's Conservation Ecology field of study. She obtained a master of science degree at the University of Concepcion Chile and a master of science and Ph.D. at the University of Washington. Her work focuses on environmental stressors affecting Great Lakes ecosystems.\n\nShe did not pursue academic training in the arts but she has been painting for as long as she has been a scientist.\n\nAt the University of Michigan\, she has taught courses bridging arts and sciences at the School of Art & Design and the Residential College\, and has organized and participated in events to immerse the arts within the endeavors of a research university. Her works have been published in books and magazines\; shown in galleries and museums in Chile\, Europe\, Canada and the United States\; and are part of public and private art collections.\n\nShe is a visiting artist at the Washington Street Gallery in Ann Arbor.\n\nIn 2001\, Adlerstein moved to Ann Arbor with her husband\, Edgar Meyhofer\, a professor of Mechanical Engineering and Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the U-M College of Engineering. Nawal Motawi graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Fine Art. In 1992\, she founded Motawi Tileworks in a garage studio. Today\, Nawal employs more than 30 people and sells tile through hundreds of retailers around the county. In conflating a momentous contemporary event with the genre of large-scale history painting\, West flouted the conventions of academic painting and the work became one of the most celebrated paintings in Britain. The artist went on to produce six versions of the painting\, one of which belongs to the William L. Clements Library at the University of Michigan. There is perhaps no more symbolically unemotional character than that of a bearskin-hat-wearing guard of the Queen of England. Yet even with no break in the guards' indifferent exterior\, the tale still manages to be a powerful metaphor for the human condition. Many of the elements of Guards are found throughout Alys's work: walking\, rhythm\, the use of the street and bridges are all common tropes in his oeuvre. In conflating a momentous contemporary event with the genre of large-scale history painting\, West flouted the conventions of academic painting and the work became one of the most celebrated paintings in Britain. The artist went on to produce six versions of the painting\, one of which belongs to the William L. Clements Library at the University of Michigan. In conflating a momentous contemporary event with the genre of large-scale history painting\, West flouted the conventions of academic painting and the work became one of the most celebrated paintings in Britain. The artist went on to produce six versions of the painting\, one of which belongs to the William L. Clements Library at the University of Michigan. The 11 artists in this show are from a multitude of social\, personal and generational backgrounds\, finding a common theme in their work\, which documents and/or is influenced by Detroit's African American community. The installation of the artists work in Black Detroit 21 presents a visual context to create a dialogue around these topics.\n\nBlack Detroit 21 is curated by Odie Rynell Cash\, an internationally active independent curator\, arts program organizer and artist living between Detroit\, Michigan and Antwerp\, Belgium. Cash is recognized for his wide range of artistic practices and concerns\; with the significance of avant-garde ideas and experimental mediums/media that address contemporary social and urban society.\n\nHe studied a Liberal Education curriculum at Columbia College Chicago. Cash was the recipient of a 2007 Flemish Minister of Culture Travel Grant for research on performance theory. The installation of the artists work in Black Detroit 21 presents a visual context to create a dialogue around these topics.\n\nBlack Detroit 21 is curated by Odie Rynell Cash\, an internationally active independent curator\, arts program organizer and artist living between Detroit\, Michigan and Antwerp\, Belgium. Cash is recognized for his wide range of artistic practices and concerns\; with the significance of avant-garde ideas and experimental mediums/media that address contemporary social and urban society.\n\nHe studied a Liberal Education curriculum at Columbia College Chicago. Cash was the recipient of a 2007 Flemish Minister of Culture Travel Grant for research on performance theory. In conflating a momentous contemporary event with the genre of large-scale history painting\, West flouted the conventions of academic painting and the work became one of the most celebrated paintings in Britain. The artist went on to produce six versions of the painting\, one of which belongs to the William L. Clements Library at the University of Michigan. Yet even with no break in the guards' indifferent exterior\, the tale still manages to be a powerful metaphor for the human condition. In her hometown of Detroit\, Jill needs no further explanation.
