DESCRIPTION:David Howell is a cancer physician and artist. He received his Bachelor of Science and Medical Doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and is a former faculty member of the U-M Medical School. Howell has been practicing medicine for over 30 years and art for over 50. He received inspiration from the Color Field and Abstract Expressionist artists of the 20th century\, impressive humans and human achievement\, and the inaugural ArtPrize exhibition held in Grand Rapids\, Michigan. Howell's work has been on display in three subsequent ArtPrize exhibitions. He resides in Ann Arbor\, Michigan and Columbus\, Ohio.\n

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Gifts of Art presents Firenation: An Odyssey in Cast & Blown Glass
DESCRIPTION:Toledo\, Ohio and Holland\, Michigan artist Matthew J. Paskiet began glassblowing in 1993 at the Toledo Museum of Art. In 2002\, he formed Firenation\, ltd.\, his current glass studio and gallery. For the past five years\, he’s also been working in the Ohio Arts Council’s artist in residency program\, and he has taught kiln cast glass in schools across Ohio. Traditionally\, he works in blown and or off-hand sculpture\, leaning towards the abstract. His Conversation series included in this exhibition is an attempt to deal with loss and the fragility of life while realizing the illusion of invincibility from a manmade world.

DESCRIPTION:Daria Lvovsky\, a native of the USSR who currently lives in Israel\, combines her love of nature with her affinity for maternal scenes in this unique exhibition of needle felted animal dolls. Lvovsky\, who holds an MSc degree in Biology from the University of Belarus\, manages to create exceptionally realistic animal dolls made of all natural fibers. Being a mother to her three young daughters\, Lvovsky feels the maternal instinct in all mothers is admirable and inspiring.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Gifts of Art presents My Healing Art: Ink Drawing
DESCRIPTION:Zahrah loves forms that have circular line\; textures fascinate and colors inspire her. My Healing Art\, a series of ink drawings\, were first created during her recovery from thyroid cancer a few years ago. Ill and filled with distress\, fear and helplessness\, she could only muster enough energy to draw simple circular shapes and lines. But she soon discovered that the act of drawing these abstract shapes everyday was therapeutic and healing. She found doing the drawings meditative and calming\, and for the first time since the terrifying diagnosis\, she felt connected\, comforted and secure. This very personal body of work tells her story of healing.

DESCRIPTION:Ann Arbor based artist and designer Kirsten Lund received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and works in a variety of media including fiber\, painting and printmaking. In this recent series\, abstract sewn and crocheted forms are covered in embroidered\, beaded and hand-printed imagery. Inspired by patterns in nature\, whether anatomical\, microscopic or aerial\, the elements are related in form and reference point. Rooted in the seductive physicality of traditional craft processes and created with conceptual frameworks\, the finished objects exist at the junction of art and craft. Lund has exhibited throughout the country and locally at the Ann Arbor Art Center.

DESCRIPTION:Changing Hands: Art Without Reservation 3 explores the work of contemporary artists of Native North American origin working in both traditional and new media\, acknowledging their long and diverse cultural legacies while overtly and simultaneously exploring\, and often confronting\, the many ongoing issues inherent to their cultural heritage.\n\nThis exhibition is the culmination of a decade-long investigation and exploration into fine art created by Indigenous artists from North America\, defined by their regional origins. This concluding exhibition of the three-part series presents new work by Native American\, First Nations\, Métis\, and Inuit artists and designers from the Northeastern and Southeastern regions of the United States and Canada. Curated by Ellen Taubman\, this Changing Hands presentation is the third in a series of exhibitions organized by the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.\n\nChanging Hands: Art Without Reservation 3 / Contemporary Native North American Art from the Northeast and Southeast was organized by the Museum of Arts and Design\, New York\, and made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts. The exhibition catalogue is made possible in part with the support of the Smithsonian Institution’s Indigenous Contemporary Arts Program. DESCRIPTION:Robert Metcalf’s domestic and commercial buildings represent some of the most important and recognizable modern architecture in Michigan. Born in 1923\, Metcalf is a native of Ohio. He began his education at the University of Michigan in 1941 but his studies were halted during World War II. After serving in Europe\, Metcalf returned to Ann Arbor and finished his degree in 1950. Upon graduation\, he worked as an apprentice to George B. Brigham and began teaching Architecture at the University of Michigan. Metcalf began his own practice in 1953 and completed over 120 projects Ann Arbor and the Detroit Metro area. \nThis exhibition presents 13 domestic projects that span his six-decade-long career from 1953-2008\, highlighting his straightforward design aesthetic\, featuring many of his iconic flat-roofed houses. Each project selected exemplifies Metcalf’s mid-century modern architectural vocabulary that results in functional\, minimalist spaces for living.\n\nThis exhibition presents 13 domestic projects that span his six-decade-long career from 1953-2008\, highlighting his straightforward design aesthetic\, featuring many of his iconic flat-roofed houses. Each project selected exemplifies Metcalf’s mid-century modern architectural vocabulary that results in functional\, minimalist spaces for living.\n\nThree Michigan Architects: Part 2–Metcalf is the second in a series of three consecutive exhibitions\, with subsequent presentation of domestic work by George Brigham (July 19–October 12\, 2014). Part 1 of the series presented the work of David Osler (December 21\, 2013–March 30\, 2013). The series will culminate in Fall 2014 with a symposium\, as well as the publication of Three Michigan Architects: Osler\, Metcalf\, and Brigham–both of which will explore the importance of this circle of Ann Arbor-based architects\, situating their regional body of domestic work into the larger context of modern architecture in the U.S. that developed on the East Coast and West Coast from the 1930s–1980s.\n

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Gifts of Art presents My Healing Art: Ink Drawing
DESCRIPTION:Zahrah loves forms that have circular line\; textures fascinate and colors inspire her. My Healing Art\, a series of ink drawings\, were first created during her recovery from thyroid cancer a few years ago. Ill and filled with distress\, fear and helplessness\, she could only muster enough energy to draw simple circular shapes and lines. But she soon discovered that the act of drawing these abstract shapes everyday was therapeutic and healing. She found doing the drawings meditative and calming\, and for the first time since the terrifying diagnosis\, she felt connected\, comforted and secure. This very personal body of work tells her story of healing.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Gifts of Art presents Paperweights & Studio Glass
DESCRIPTION:The American studio glass movement started in 1962 with glass workshops held at the Toledo Museum of Art. The workshops\, taught by Harvey Littleton along with scientist Dominick Labino\, introduced a small furnace built for working glass that made it possible for artists to work in independent studios. The studio glass movement quickly spread north to Michigan\, and in 1982\, a decision was made that studio glass would be the focus of the University of Michigan-Dearborn permanent art collection\, which is housed at the Alfred Berkowitz Gallery. This exhibition is a portion of that collection\, spotlighting studio glass art by major artists working in the medium\, including Dominick Labino\, Marvin Lipofsky and Richard Ritter.

DESCRIPTION:Ann Arbor based artist and designer Kirsten Lund received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and works in a variety of media including fiber\, painting and printmaking. In this recent series\, abstract sewn and crocheted forms are covered in embroidered\, beaded and hand-printed imagery. Inspired by patterns in nature\, whether anatomical\, microscopic or aerial\, the elements are related in form and reference point. Rooted in the seductive physicality of traditional craft processes and created with conceptual frameworks\, the finished objects exist at the junction of art and craft. Lund has exhibited throughout the country and locally at the Ann Arbor Art Center.

DESCRIPTION:Changing Hands: Art Without Reservation 3 explores the work of contemporary artists of Native North American origin working in both traditional and new media\, acknowledging their long and diverse cultural legacies while overtly and simultaneously exploring\, and often confronting\, the many ongoing issues inherent to their cultural heritage.\n\nThis exhibition is the culmination of a decade-long investigation and exploration into fine art created by Indigenous artists from North America\, defined by their regional origins. This concluding exhibition of the three-part series presents new work by Native American\, First Nations\, Métis\, and Inuit artists and designers from the Northeastern and Southeastern regions of the United States and Canada. Curated by Ellen Taubman\, this Changing Hands presentation is the third in a series of exhibitions organized by the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.\n\nChanging Hands: Art Without Reservation 3 / Contemporary Native North American Art from the Northeast and Southeast was organized by the Museum of Arts and Design\, New York\, and made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts. The exhibition catalogue is made possible in part with the support of the Smithsonian Institution’s Indigenous Contemporary Arts Program. SUMMARY:Exhibition:Three Michigan Architects: Part 2–Robert Metcalf
DESCRIPTION:Robert Metcalf’s domestic and commercial buildings represent some of the most important and recognizable modern architecture in Michigan. Born in 1923\, Metcalf is a native of Ohio. He began his education at the University of Michigan in 1941 but his studies were halted during World War II. After serving in Europe\, Metcalf returned to Ann Arbor and finished his degree in 1950. Upon graduation\, he worked as an apprentice to George B. Brigham and began teaching Architecture at the University of Michigan. Metcalf began his own practice in 1953 and completed over 120 projects Ann Arbor and the Detroit Metro area. \nThis exhibition presents 13 domestic projects that span his six-decade-long career from 1953-2008\, highlighting his straightforward design aesthetic\, featuring many of his iconic flat-roofed houses. Each project selected exemplifies Metcalf’s mid-century modern architectural vocabulary that results in functional\, minimalist spaces for living.\n\nThis exhibition presents 13 domestic projects that span his six-decade-long career from 1953-2008\, highlighting his straightforward design aesthetic\, featuring many of his iconic flat-roofed houses. Each project selected exemplifies Metcalf’s mid-century modern architectural vocabulary that results in functional\, minimalist spaces for living.\n\nThree Michigan Architects: Part 2–Metcalf is the second in a series of three consecutive exhibitions\, with subsequent presentation of domestic work by George Brigham (July 19–October 12\, 2014). Part 1 of the series presented the work of David Osler (December 21\, 2013–March 30\, 2013). The series will culminate in Fall 2014 with a symposium\, as well as the publication of Three Michigan Architects: Osler\, Metcalf\, and Brigham–both of which will explore the importance of this circle of Ann Arbor-based architects\, situating their regional body of domestic work into the larger context of modern architecture in the U.S. that developed on the East Coast and West Coast from the 1930s–1980s.\n

Howell has been practicing medicine for over 30 years and art for over 50. He received inspiration from the Color Field and Abstract Expressionist artists of the 20th century\, impressive humans and human achievement\, and the inaugural ArtPrize exhibition held in Grand Rapids\, Michigan. Howell's work has been on display in three subsequent ArtPrize exhibitions. He resides in Ann Arbor\, Michigan and Columbus\, Ohio.\n

DESCRIPTION:Toledo\, Ohio and Holland\, Michigan artist Matthew J. Paskiet began glassblowing in 1993 at the Toledo Museum of Art. In 2002\, he formed Firenation\, ltd.\, his current glass studio and gallery. For the past five years\, he’s also been working in the Ohio Arts Council’s artist in residency program\, and he has taught kiln cast glass in schools across Ohio. Traditionally\, he works in blown and or off-hand sculpture\, leaning towards the abstract. His Conversation series included in this exhibition is an attempt to deal with loss and the fragility of life while realizing the illusion of invincibility from a manmade world.

DESCRIPTION:Daria Lvovsky\, a native of the USSR who currently lives in Israel\, combines her love of nature with her affinity for maternal scenes in this unique exhibition of needle felted animal dolls. Lvovsky\, who holds an MSc degree in Biology from the University of Belarus\, manages to create exceptionally realistic animal dolls made of all natural fibers. Being a mother to her three young daughters\, Lvovsky feels the maternal instinct in all mothers is admirable and inspiring.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Three Michigan Architects: Part 2–Robert Metcalf
DESCRIPTION:Robert Metcalf’s domestic and commercial buildings represent some of the most important and recognizable modern architecture in Michigan. Born in 1923\, Metcalf is a native of Ohio. He began his education at the University of Michigan in 1941 but his studies were halted during World War II. After serving in Europe\, Metcalf returned to Ann Arbor and finished his degree in 1950. Upon graduation\, he worked as an apprentice to George B. Brigham and began teaching Architecture at the University of Michigan. Metcalf began his own practice in 1953 and completed over 120 projects Ann Arbor and the Detroit Metro area. \nThis exhibition presents 13 domestic projects that span his six-decade-long career from 1953-2008\, highlighting his straightforward design aesthetic\, featuring many of his iconic flat-roofed houses. Each project selected exemplifies Metcalf’s mid-century modern architectural vocabulary that results in functional\, minimalist spaces for living.\n\nThis exhibition presents 13 domestic projects that span his six-decade-long career from 1953-2008\, highlighting his straightforward design aesthetic\, featuring many of his iconic flat-roofed houses. He received inspiration from the Color Field and Abstract Expressionist artists of the 20th century\, impressive humans and human achievement\, and the inaugural ArtPrize exhibition held in Grand Rapids\, Michigan. DESCRIPTION:Toledo\, Ohio and Holland\, Michigan artist Matthew J. Paskiet began glassblowing in 1993 at the Toledo Museum of Art. In 2002\, he formed Firenation\, ltd.\, his current glass studio and gallery. For the past five years\, he’s also been working in the Ohio Arts Council’s artist in residency program\, and he has taught kiln cast glass in schools across Ohio. Traditionally\, he works in blown and or off-hand sculpture\, leaning towards the abstract. His Conversation series included in this exhibition is an attempt to deal with loss and the fragility of life while realizing the illusion of invincibility from a manmade world.

Lvovsky\, who holds an MSc degree in Biology from the University of Belarus\, manages to create exceptionally realistic animal dolls made of all natural fibers. Being a mother to her three young daughters\, Lvovsky feels the maternal instinct in all mothers is admirable and inspiring.

DESCRIPTION:Zahrah loves forms that have circular line\; textures fascinate and colors inspire her. My Healing Art\, a series of ink drawings\, were first created during her recovery from thyroid cancer a few years ago. Ill and filled with distress\, fear and helplessness\, she could only muster enough energy to draw simple circular shapes and lines. But she soon discovered that the act of drawing these abstract shapes everyday was therapeutic and healing. She found doing the drawings meditative and calming\, and for the first time since the terrifying diagnosis\, she felt connected\, comforted and secure. This very personal body of work tells her story of healing.

DESCRIPTION:The American studio glass movement started in 1962 with glass workshops held at the Toledo Museum of Art. The workshops\, taught by Harvey Littleton along with scientist Dominick Labino\, introduced a small furnace built for working glass that made it possible for artists to work in independent studios. The studio glass movement quickly spread north to Michigan\, and in 1982\, a decision was made that studio glass would be the focus of the University of Michigan-Dearborn permanent art collection\, which is housed at the Alfred Berkowitz Gallery. This exhibition is a portion of that collection\, spotlighting studio glass art by major artists working in the medium\, including Dominick Labino\, Marvin Lipofsky and Richard Ritter.

DESCRIPTION:Ann Arbor based artist and designer Kirsten Lund received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and works in a variety of media including fiber\, painting and printmaking. In this recent series\, abstract sewn and crocheted forms are covered in embroidered\, beaded and hand-printed imagery. Inspired by patterns in nature\, whether anatomical\, microscopic or aerial\, the elements are related in form and reference point. Rooted in the seductive physicality of traditional craft processes and created with conceptual frameworks\, the finished objects exist at the junction of art and craft. Lund has exhibited throughout the country and locally at the Ann Arbor Art Center.

DESCRIPTION:David Howell is a cancer physician and artist. He received his Bachelor of Science and Medical Doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and is a former faculty member of the U-M Medical School. Howell has been practicing medicine for over 30 years and art for over 50. He received inspiration from the Color Field and Abstract Expressionist artists of the 20th century\, impressive humans and human achievement\, and the inaugural ArtPrize exhibition held in Grand Rapids\, Michigan. Howell's work has been on display in three subsequent ArtPrize exhibitions. He resides in Ann Arbor\, Michigan and Columbus\, Ohio.\n

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Gifts of Art presents Firenation: An Odyssey in Cast & Blown Glass
DESCRIPTION:Toledo\, Ohio and Holland\, Michigan artist Matthew J. Paskiet began glassblowing in 1993 at the Toledo Museum of Art. In 2002\, he formed Firenation\, ltd.\, his current glass studio and gallery. For the past five years\, he’s also been working in the Ohio Arts Council’s artist in residency program\, and he has taught kiln cast glass in schools across Ohio. Traditionally\, he works in blown and or off-hand sculpture\, leaning towards the abstract. His Conversation series included in this exhibition is an attempt to deal with loss and the fragility of life while realizing the illusion of invincibility from a manmade world.

Lvovsky\, who holds an MSc degree in Biology from the University of Belarus\, manages to create exceptionally realistic animal dolls made of all natural fibers. Being a mother to her three young daughters\, Lvovsky feels the maternal instinct in all mothers is admirable and inspiring.

DESCRIPTION:Zahrah loves forms that have circular line\; textures fascinate and colors inspire her. My Healing Art\, a series of ink drawings\, were first created during her recovery from thyroid cancer a few years ago. Ill and filled with distress\, fear and helplessness\, she could only muster enough energy to draw simple circular shapes and lines. But she soon discovered that the act of drawing these abstract shapes everyday was therapeutic and healing. She found doing the drawings meditative and calming\, and for the first time since the terrifying diagnosis\, she felt connected\, comforted and secure. This very personal body of work tells her story of healing.

DESCRIPTION:The American studio glass movement started in 1962 with glass workshops held at the Toledo Museum of Art. The workshops\, taught by Harvey Littleton along with scientist Dominick Labino\, introduced a small furnace built for working glass that made it possible for artists to work in independent studios. The studio glass movement quickly spread north to Michigan\, and in 1982\, a decision was made that studio glass would be the focus of the University of Michigan-Dearborn permanent art collection\, which is housed at the Alfred Berkowitz Gallery. This exhibition is a portion of that collection\, spotlighting studio glass art by major artists working in the medium\, including Dominick Labino\, Marvin Lipofsky and Richard Ritter.

DESCRIPTION:Ann Arbor based artist and designer Kirsten Lund received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and works in a variety of media including fiber\, painting and printmaking. In this recent series\, abstract sewn and crocheted forms are covered in embroidered\, beaded and hand-printed imagery. Inspired by patterns in nature\, whether anatomical\, microscopic or aerial\, the elements are related in form and reference point. Rooted in the seductive physicality of traditional craft processes and created with conceptual frameworks\, the finished objects exist at the junction of art and craft. Lund has exhibited throughout the country and locally at the Ann Arbor Art Center.

Curated by Ellen Taubman\, this Changing Hands presentation is the third in a series of exhibitions organized by the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.\n\nChanging Hands: Art Without Reservation 3 / Contemporary Native North American Art from the Northeast and Southeast was organized by the Museum of Arts and Design\, New York\, and made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts. DESCRIPTION:Robert Metcalf’s domestic and commercial buildings represent some of the most important and recognizable modern architecture in Michigan. Born in 1923\, Metcalf is a native of Ohio. He began his education at the University of Michigan in 1941 but his studies were halted during World War II. After serving in Europe\, Metcalf returned to Ann Arbor and finished his degree in 1950. Upon graduation\, he worked as an apprentice to George B. Brigham and began teaching Architecture at the University of Michigan. Metcalf began his own practice in 1953 and completed over 120 projects Ann Arbor and the Detroit Metro area. \nThis exhibition presents 13 domestic projects that span his six-decade-long career from 1953-2008\, highlighting his straightforward design aesthetic\, featuring many of his iconic flat-roofed houses. Each project selected exemplifies Metcalf’s mid-century modern architectural vocabulary that results in functional\, minimalist spaces for living.\n\nThis exhibition presents 13 domestic projects that span his six-decade-long career from 1953-2008\, highlighting his straightforward design aesthetic\, featuring many of his iconic flat-roofed houses. Each project selected exemplifies Metcalf’s mid-century modern architectural vocabulary that results in functional\, minimalist spaces for living.\n\nThree Michigan Architects: Part 2–Metcalf is the second in a series of three consecutive exhibitions\, with subsequent presentation of domestic work by George Brigham (July 19–October 12\, 2014). DESCRIPTION:Pete Siers\, drummer and leader of the renowned Latin jazz combo Los Gatos\, is a powerful\, intensely physical and dynamic player on timbales\, coro and percussion. In addition to Siers\, the other four members of the group\, Cary Kocher\, on vibes and coro\; Kurt Krahnke\, bass\; Brian Di Blassio\, piano and coro\; and Al Di Blassio\, congas\, vocals and percussion\, are all world class performers. They have each toured extensively and have been performing in Los Gatos for over 10 years. With Siers\, this group’s rhythm section is remarkable\, but for many listeners\, the distinctive feature of Los Gatos is Cary Kocher's vibraphone sound\, which can send a cool flow down your back on a hot summer day.  This concert is part of the UMHS Summer Courtyard Concert Series presented by Gifts of Art.

DESCRIPTION:Fred Eaglesmith is Ontario's roots-country original! There are other songwriters who populate their creations with small-time crooks\, small-town loners\, and working-class heroes. But Fred Eaglesmith's songs stand out for their edge of desperation and their raucous yet bemused humor–and for the incredible energy and on-the-edge quality of his live shows. Circulating on tour from his Ontario farm\, Fred harks back to an earlier era of roots music with his raw\, driving country soul. Best of all\, Fred is coming to town with a new album\, \"Tambourine\,\" his 20th. The title and the music draw on the spirit of pure 1960s rock and roll. We've recently heard Fred solo at The Ark\, and now it's time for a show with his band the Traveling Steam Show\, which has lately jelled as a unit to a degree reminiscent of his great band of yore\, the Flying Squirrels.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Gifts of Art presents My Healing Art: Ink Drawing
DESCRIPTION:Zahrah loves forms that have circular line\; textures fascinate and colors inspire her. My Healing Art\, a series of ink drawings\, were first created during her recovery from thyroid cancer a few years ago. Ill and filled with distress\, fear and helplessness\, she could only muster enough energy to draw simple circular shapes and lines. But she soon discovered that the act of drawing these abstract shapes everyday was therapeutic and healing. She found doing the drawings meditative and calming\, and for the first time since the terrifying diagnosis\, she felt connected\, comforted and secure. This very personal body of work tells her story of healing.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Gifts of Art presents Paperweights & Studio Glass
DESCRIPTION:The American studio glass movement started in 1962 with glass workshops held at the Toledo Museum of Art. The workshops\, taught by Harvey Littleton along with scientist Dominick Labino\, introduced a small furnace built for working glass that made it possible for artists to work in independent studios. The studio glass movement quickly spread north to Michigan\, and in 1982\, a decision was made that studio glass would be the focus of the University of Michigan-Dearborn permanent art collection\, which is housed at the Alfred Berkowitz Gallery. This exhibition is a portion of that collection\, spotlighting studio glass art by major artists working in the medium\, including Dominick Labino\, Marvin Lipofsky and Richard Ritter.

DESCRIPTION:Ann Arbor based artist and designer Kirsten Lund received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and works in a variety of media including fiber\, painting and printmaking. DESCRIPTION:Not all of the items we use in our daily life were invented in our lifetime. Many have long and rich histories. Some have remained unchanged over thousands of years. The exhibition \"Ancient/Modern: The Design of Everyday Things\" will seek to introduce visitors to the concept that artifacts have existed for longer than they imagine\, serving the needs of humans for millennia. In some cases\, the concept from long ago proved so useful there was little need to improve its design. In others\, the need remained\, but the form was altered extensively. A selection from the Kelsey Museum collections will demonstrate these notions of change and tradition as they are compared and contrasted with their modern counterparts.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Three Michigan Architects: Part 2–Robert Metcalf
DESCRIPTION:Robert Metcalf’s domestic and commercial buildings represent some of the most important and recognizable modern architecture in Michigan. Born in 1923\, Metcalf is a native of Ohio. He began his education at the University of Michigan in 1941 but his studies were halted during World War II. After serving in Europe\, Metcalf returned to Ann Arbor and finished his degree in 1950. Upon graduation\, he worked as an apprentice to George B. Brigham and began teaching Architecture at the University of Michigan. Metcalf began his own practice in 1953 and completed over 120 projects Ann Arbor and the Detroit Metro area. \nThis exhibition presents 13 domestic projects that span his six-decade-long career from 1953-2008\, highlighting his straightforward design aesthetic\, featuring many of his iconic flat-roofed houses. Each project selected exemplifies Metcalf’s mid-century modern architectural vocabulary that results in functional\, minimalist spaces for living.\n\nThis exhibition presents 13 domestic projects that span his six-decade-long career from 1953-2008\, highlighting his straightforward design aesthetic\, featuring many of his iconic flat-roofed houses. Each project selected exemplifies Metcalf’s mid-century modern architectural vocabulary that results in functional\, minimalist spaces for living.\n\nThree Michigan Architects: Part 2–Metcalf is the second in a series of three consecutive exhibitions\, with subsequent presentation of domestic work by George Brigham (July 19–October 12\, 2014). The series will culminate in Fall 2014 with a symposium\, as well as the publication of Three Michigan Architects: Osler\, Metcalf\, and Brigham–both of which will explore the importance of this circle of Ann Arbor-based architects\, situating their regional body of domestic work into the larger context of modern architecture in the U.S. that developed on the East Coast and West Coast from the 1930s–1980s.\n

Now's your chance to hear what he can really do! Mark was born in Grand Rapids in 1984 and was involved in jazz\, percussion groups\, and choirs at Alma College. He honed his skills on the dobro in Michigan's folk and bluegrass communities while working part-time at GR's Founders brewpub. In addition to Lindsay Lou\, he's played with Michael Beauchamp & the Barn Roughs\, Nicholas James Thomasma\, Kung Fu Rodeo\, the Fauxgrass Quartet\, Strings 'n Things. He received inspiration from the Color Field and Abstract Expressionist artists of the 20th century\, impressive humans and human achievement\, and the inaugural ArtPrize exhibition held in Grand Rapids\, Michigan. DESCRIPTION:Toledo\, Ohio and Holland\, Michigan artist Matthew J. Paskiet began glassblowing in 1993 at the Toledo Museum of Art. In 2002\, he formed Firenation\, ltd.\, his current glass studio and gallery. For the past five years\, he’s also been working in the Ohio Arts Council’s artist in residency program\, and he has taught kiln cast glass in schools across Ohio. Traditionally\, he works in blown and or off-hand sculpture\, leaning towards the abstract. His Conversation series included in this exhibition is an attempt to deal with loss and the fragility of life while realizing the illusion of invincibility from a manmade world.

DESCRIPTION:Daria Lvovsky\, a native of the USSR who currently lives in Israel\, combines her love of nature with her affinity for maternal scenes in this unique exhibition of needle felted animal dolls. Lvovsky\, who holds an MSc degree in Biology from the University of Belarus\, manages to create exceptionally realistic animal dolls made of all natural fibers. Being a mother to her three young daughters\, Lvovsky feels the maternal instinct in all mothers is admirable and inspiring.

DESCRIPTION:Robert Metcalf’s domestic and commercial buildings represent some of the most important and recognizable modern architecture in Michigan. Born in 1923\, Metcalf is a native of Ohio. He began his education at the University of Michigan in 1941 but his studies were halted during World War II. After serving in Europe\, Metcalf returned to Ann Arbor and finished his degree in 1950. Upon graduation\, he worked as an apprentice to George B. Brigham and began teaching Architecture at the University of Michigan. Metcalf began his own practice in 1953 and completed over 120 projects Ann Arbor and the Detroit Metro area. \nThis exhibition presents 13 domestic projects that span his six-decade-long career from 1953-2008\, highlighting his straightforward design aesthetic\, featuring many of his iconic flat-roofed houses. Each project selected exemplifies Metcalf’s mid-century modern architectural vocabulary that results in functional\, minimalist spaces for living.\n\nThis exhibition presents 13 domestic projects that span his six-decade-long career from 1953-2008\, highlighting his straightforward design aesthetic\, featuring many of his iconic flat-roofed houses. Each project selected exemplifies Metcalf’s mid-century modern architectural vocabulary that results in functional\, minimalist spaces for living.\n\nThree Michigan Architects: Part 2–Metcalf is the second in a series of three consecutive exhibitions\, with subsequent presentation of domestic work by George Brigham (July 19–October 12\, 2014). Part 1 of the series presented the work of David Osler (December 21\, 2013–March 30\, 2013). The series will culminate in Fall 2014 with a symposium\, as well as the publication of Three Michigan Architects: Osler\, Metcalf\, and Brigham–both of which will explore the importance of this circle of Ann Arbor-based architects\, situating their regional body of domestic work into the larger context of modern architecture in the U.S. that developed on the East Coast and West Coast from the 1930s–1980s.\n

DESCRIPTION:Children ages four to seven are invited to hear a story in the galleries. In May\, we will read a story related to the Native American art in Changing Hands: Art Without Reservation. In June we will connect with our permanent collections. Stories will be followed by a short art activity responding to the art on display. Parents must accompany children. DESCRIPTION:It's been a good couple years for the relentlessly hard working six piece rock band from Durham\, NC. Delta Rae’s debut album\, Carry The Fire\, came out to high praise last summer. They’ve been profiled everywhere from NPR to Time to Forbes and Rolling Stone proclaimed that \"if Fleetwood Mac came up in North Carolina\, they might resemble Delta Rae.\" VH1 hand selected them for their \"You Oughta Know\" Artist Of The Month program. They performed not once\, but twice on both The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno and Conan. Live is where Delta Rae truly flourish. They’ve sold out venues from coast to coast\, opened for heroes like Lyle Lovett and even shared the stage with First Lady Michelle Obama\, when they performed during a Democratic rally at UNC Chapel Hill. They played pretty much every festival under the sun\, including Bonnaroo\, Austin City Limits and Voodoo...not to mention the Ann Arbor Folk Festival in January 2013 where they were a huge hit with our hometown audience. Delta Rae just released a brand new EP\, Chasing Twisters\, that includes the blazing title track which Rolling Stone deemed “heroic” and “Run\,” which iTunes hand picked as their Single Of The Week. Delta Rae are currently working on a brand new studio album\, which will come out in early 2014.\n\nThis show is sold out!
