SUMMARY:Performance:The Claudettes
DESCRIPTION:“A skewed cabaret band of blues\, jazz and rockabilly…a sensibility that feels equal parts James Dean and David Lynch.”—Minneapolis Star-Tribune\n\nSix albums into their lauded career\, the Claudettes (of Chicago) continue to put a fascinating new spin on American roots music. Blues and R&B are laced with punk spirit and film-noir moods to create the band’s singular “garage cabaret” sound. The Claudettes have earned worldwide acclaim with their recordings and concerts that are equal parts heart\, musicianship and theatrical flair. Force-of-nature vocalist Rachel Williams (who dominates the stage like a glam-rock rebirth of Annie Lennox and renowned pianist/songwriter Johnny Iguana join the positively heroic rhythm section of Zach Verdoorn (bass\, guitar\, vocals) and Michael Caskey (drums). Outside the Claudettes\, Iguana has toured with Junior Wells and Otis Rush\, played on many Grammy-nominated albums and recorded with Buddy Guy\, Junior Wells\, Derek Trucks\, Mick Jagger\, Keith Richards\, Johnny Winter and more. Johnny is also composer of the score for the Emmy-winning smash FX/Hulu series “The Bear.”\n\n“Chicago’s original recipe band…The Claudettes’ sonic playing field is the blues and everything after\, all tastefully and artfully blended together….Perhaps the band’s greatest super power: songwriting.”—NPR Music

SUMMARY:Well-being:Heartfulness Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Heartfulness Guided Meditation is a weekly\, drop-in program designed to help you Mental well-being. \n\nAll U-M students\, faculty\, and staff are welcome to participate in guided meditation practice with a trainer every Friday at noon over Zoom (details to join are provided below). No prior experience with meditation is required. \n\n*What will you learn?*\n\nThe guided meditation practice involves three simple steps: relaxation\, rejuvenation\, and meditation.\n\nRelaxation brings your body to a calm\, steady posture creating a stillness at the physical level\, and prepares the mind for meditation. Lastly\, learning to meditate by being mindful of your heart will connect you with yourself by listening to your heart’s voice. \n\n*Why Meditate?*\n\nWhile physical fitness keeps our bodies in shape\, meditation is an exercise for the mind and mental wellness. In addition to the measurable benefits mentally and physically\, many people benefit from an unquantifiable inner poise and harmony. \n\n*Please take Learn to Meditate session if you are new to the practice. These sessions are offered Monthly.* https://events.umich.edu/event/128708\n\n*Event Details*\n\nHeartfulness Guided Meditation \nFridays from 12-12:30 p.m. ET (except during university season days / holidays)\nJoin Via Zoom Meeting\nRegister to receive Passcode (see “Related links”\n\n\nThis wellness program is coordinated by ITS Teaching & Learning and provided at no cost by heartfulness.org.

DESCRIPTION:Fourth annual event!\n\nThe Ann Arbor Django Reinhardt Festival returns to The Ark for a joyous celebration of the music and legacy of jazz guitar pioneer Django Reinhardt. Hosted by guitarist Andrew Brown\, a longtime champion of Hot Club music in Michigan whose performances and educational efforts have helped cultivate the region’s Django community\, this year’s festival features an outstanding cast of musicians. Featured in the evening is guitarist Sam Farthing\, one of the most exciting young voices in jazz manouche today\, known for his virtuosic technique\, expressive improvisation\, and appearances at major Django festivals across North America and Europe. Joining him is acclaimed violinist Grant Flick\, an Ann Arbor-based composer\, educator\, and multi-style improviser whose award-winning work spans jazz\, bluegrass\, chamber music\, and the rich tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. Together they will be joined by the full Djangophonique crew—clarinetist Tyler Rindo\, vocalist Katie Lynne\, guitarist David Bendena\, and bassist Jorian Olk-Szost—for an evening of swinging rhythms\, dazzling solos\, heartfelt melodies\, and the infectious energy that has made jazz manouche a beloved musical tradition around the world.
