SUMMARY:Performance:Come from Away
DESCRIPTION:*Come from Away* is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander\, Newfoundland\, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover\, when 38 planes\, carrying thousands of people from around the globe\, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11\, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers\, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music\, an open bar\, and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.\n\n*Come from Away* has earned global success with 37 award nominations and 13 wins\, most notably Best New Musical at the 2019 Olivier Awards and Outstanding Musical at the 2017 Drama Desk Awards. The show’s global presence resonates with audiences as an uplifting reminder of humanity’s ability to come together.\n\nBook\, Music\, and Lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein\nDirected by Vincent J. Cardinal\nMusic Direction by Cynthia Kortman Westphal\n

No prior experience with meditation is required. \n\n*What will you learn?*\n\nThe guided meditation practice involves three simple steps: relaxation\, rejuvenation\, and meditation.\n\nRelaxation brings your body to a calm\, steady posture creating a stillness at the physical level\, and prepares the mind for meditation. SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Incorporations: Capitalism and Collective Life with Associate Professor Matthew Hull
DESCRIPTION:Join the U-M Department of Anthropology for the annual Roy A. Rappaport Lecture Series! Associate Professor Matthew Hull will present the fall 2026 series\, titled “Incorporations: Capitalism and Collective Life.”\n\nAbstract: “Corporations are often seen as economic actors\, but they have been central to Anglo-American governance for centuries—pioneers of democratic assembly\, speech\, citizenship\, and constitutions. They are free and open to the public:\n\nFriday\, Sept. 25\n“Corporate Persons in Human Law: Reproduction\, Kinship\, Jurisdiction”\n\nFriday\, Oct. 23\n“Freedom and Citizenship: Corporate Membership and the Making of Exclusion”\n\nFriday\, Nov. 13\n“Meetings and Speech: Corporate Mediations of Will”\n\nFriday\, Dec. 4\n“Sharing and Inequality in Corporations”\n\nVIRTUAL PARTICIPATION LINK: Coming fall 2026!\n\nIf you need accommodations to attend\, please email anthro.exec.secretary@umich.edu.

SUMMARY:Performance:Tallest Man on Earth
DESCRIPTION:“The Tallest Man on Earth has released some of the best modern folk music of this century. He writes elegant\, homespun ballads that draw you in toward the proverbial campfire.” –GQ\n\nCritics often draw comparisons between The Tallest Man on Earth and Bob Dylan\, citing similarities in both songwriting and vocal style. Matsson himself has acknowledged Dylan's influence\, revealing that he started listening to him at the age of fifteen. Fascinated by Dylan's covers\, he delved into their origins\, which gradually introduced him to early American folk artists like Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. However\, Matsson is quick to distance himself from being part of any specific tradition\, stating\, “I don’t want to be part of a tradition. I just want to do what feels natural to me. This is how I play\, and this is how I write songs.”
