Jason Beckfield, PhD

Comparing Social Inequalities in Health across Societies

Jason Beckfield is Professor and Director of Graduate Studies, Sociology, Harvard University. In addition to health inequalities, Dr. Beckfield studies globalization, political sociology, and social stratification. He received a BA from Truman State University in 1998, followed by a PhD from Indiana University in 2005. His recent publications include “More Europe, Not Less: What Can Happen When European Welfare States Meet the Eurozone Crisis” in SocioLogica: Italian Journal of Sociology, “Organized Labor in an Evolving Europe” in Research in the Sociology of Work, and “The Social Structure of the World Polity” in the American Journal of Sociology. Currently, Beckfield is working on two major projects: the first, a book on what regional integration means for inequality in Europe, and the second, a series of articles on the comparative sociology of health inequalities.
