Smt. Kalapini, the daughter and disciple of the legendary Pandit Kumar Gandharva, is widely recognized as one of the finest classical vocalists of the younger generation. Her performances, which are marked by youthful imagination, artistic thoughtfulness and a mature command over classical vocalism, also include improvisations that are generally rooted in Gwalior gayaki, but carry her own distinct identity.
The performance is dedicated to and themed after her father. It is a Lecture - Demonstration in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music. Accompanied by Shri Sanjay Deshpande (Tabla) and Shri Raya Korgaonkar (Harmonium), she will mesmerize the audience with the rendition of the bandish (composition), its bhava (meaning) and the fine balance between laya (tempo) and the lyrics.
