Final Honors in the Arts Event for Winter 2024: Indie Bookstore Tour of Downtown Ann Arbor
A sixth and final addition to our Honors in the Arts Winter 2024 event series has been confirmed.
Join us on Wednesday, April 17th, from 1:50PM until 4:15PM, for a walking tour of some of Downtown Ann Arbor's most beloved, Indie Bookstores! We will be exploring some of Ann Arbor's most adored and longest-standing independent bookstores. At each stop, we will have an opportunity to browse the stacks, meet the owner, and take a break from the rush of the end of the winter semester to appreciate Ann Arbor's downtown, book culture. Our list of bookstores and their respective owners is provided below... Dawn Treader Bookshop (Africa Schaumann) Literati Bookstore (Hilary Gustafson) Crazy Wisdom Bookstore (Chandra Mitchel) West Side Book Shop (Jay Platt)A few questions we might consider before and during this walking tour... Is there an art to browsing a bookstore? Is there an art to designing a browsable bookstore? How do I engage in local/regional book culture?
Participation in this event, followed by a reflection—reflection details to be provided day of the event, due no later than 4/24—counts as one HIA event. As noted previously, you must attended at least two HIA events in Winter 2024 to obtain one Sophomore Engagement Point. (Of course, you are encouraged, if so inclined, to attend as many of the HIA events in Winter 2024 as you like.)
This event will be capped at 15 attendees, per our Indie Bookstore participants' tours and visitations policies. We will meet at the Perlman Honors Commons at 1:50PM sharp. Please arrive promptly, as we want to ensure sufficient time for each of the four stops we will be making. Register below to reserve your spot!
