Interrogating and disrupting inequities in student leadership education efforts

In this presentation, Dr. Lauren Irwin, Assistant Professor of Higher Education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, leverages her research and experiences as a student affairs practitioner and leadership educator to detail how common leadership education programs, tools, and practices normalize inequities and undermine student leadership learning. Lauren offers practical strategies for pursuing equity in practice by describing changes in tools, pedagogies, and larger programming efforts. Participants will leave with clear examples of practices that undermine equity, as well as discussion questions and action steps to improve practice.
