Seminar with Mayssa Rekhis | Global Health and Borders: Heath, Migration and Social Justice
The Center for Global Health Equity is pleased to present the first of our seminar speakers for the 2024-2025 academic year: Mayssa Rekhis, Lecturer, School of Public Health and Community Medicine, University of Gothenburg (Sweden). Rekhis will be presenting her work exploring the intersection of migration, global health, & social justice.

This presentation is co-sponsored by the Office of Global Public Health and the Department of Anthropology
Join us for a structured conversation with Mayssa Rekhis, M.D, Ph.D., facilitated by Scott Stonington, M.D, Ph.D., on navigating the fields of medicine and global health across continents and disciplines, moving in between practices and theories, activism and critique, centers and peripheries.
The conversation will focus on Mayssa’s experiences in many global health sites: hospital wards in Tunis, human rights activist circles in the Southwest Asian and North African region, UN and international organizations, and the European academic approach to research and teaching on borders and migration. We will discuss the borders of “global health” itself, especially the history of separating sites of practice from the sites of theorization and education. The goal will be to explore how a social justice lens can reshape the very structure of global health as a pursuit.
