Is the dissertation or thesis process causing you excessive worry or distress? Are you feeling isolated in your struggle? Many talented and capable individuals struggle with this often overwhelming project. Our goal is to help you better manage this process.

The Dissertation Stress Reduction Group will provide a supportive atmosphere to address common thesis and dissertation challenges, such as procrastination, anxiety, self-defeating thoughts, and difficulties with motivation, concentration, perfectionism, assertiveness, advisor relations, and work-life balance. The Dissertation Stress Reduction Group will include:

Ӣ Training in cognitive-behavioral coping skills to address mood, self-defeating thoughts, and unhelpful behaviors

Ӣ Relevant skills and strategies for the dissertation process, and

Ӣ A small, supportive therapeutic environment.

Participants engage at their own pace with therapist assistance. The group will run for 10 weekly sessions. We encourage you to contact us if you are interested in joining this group.

Please note: Therapists will not advise regarding the content of the dissertation. We understand that is the role of the faculty advisor and the academic department.

Registration is required. Please call (734) 764-3471 to schedule a 1-hour screening visit prior to October 16, 2013.

Cost

  • $40 per group session per week. Call (734) 764-3471 to see if your insurance covers this service.
