Mohamed El-Sioufi has over 35 years of experience practicing, advising and teaching in the field of human settlements. He has been an advisor to Ministries of Housing in several countries, various international aid institutions including the UN, WB, US-AID and others. He also taught at the University of Ain Shams, Egypt and University of Michigan, USA.

Mr. El-Sioufi has worked with UN-HABITAT since 1995 as a Senior Human Settlements Advisor responsible mainly for technical cooperation activities in the Arab States Region and Africa. Programmes and projects managed include human settlements design, land management, local environmental planning and management, governance, housing policy and projects, slum upgrading, post disaster institutional capacity development, and resource mobilization. He has also established and coordinated the UN-HABITAT Rapid Urban Sector Profiling for Sustainability Programme (RUSPS) currently being implemented in more than 40 countries in the African, Arab States, Caribbean and Pacific regions. He is responsible for the publication of more than 50 Urban Profiles. Since 2007, he is the head of the Shelter Branch responsible for the development of UN-HABITAT’s normative work regarding issues on land, housing and post crisis contexts as well as being part of the Agency’s Internal Reorganization Team.

Mohamed El-Sioufi's current position is Coordinator, Housing and Slum Upgrading Branch for UN-HABITAT. He holds a D.Arch. from the University of Michigan, a S.M.Arch.S, Human Settlements Planning from MIT, and a B.Sc.Arch. from Ain Shams University.
