Sho became Director of OMA*AMO New York in 2006, and a Partner in 2008. During his time at OMA, Sho led the team that won the CCTV (China Central Television) Headquarters design competition in 2002, as well as the winning competition entry for the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SSE) Headquarters. Under the direction of Shohei Shigematsu, the New York office has overseen the completion of Milstein Hall, an extension to the College of Architecture, Art and Planning at Cornell University (2011) as well as the current construction of the National Beaux Arts museum in Quebec. Sho has also led the design of a number of collaborations with artists, including a seven screen pavilion in Cannes with Kanye West, the Marina Abramovic Institute for the Preservation of Performance Art in upstate New York, and a studio renovation for artist Cai Guo Qiang in New York. Most recently, Sho led the winning competition designs for the Miami Beach Convention Center, a mixed use project in Santa Monica, California, and a masterplan for a new civic center in Bogota, Colombia.

Mr. Shigematsu’s experience working with fashion brands began with his role as lead designer for Prada’s London and Shanghai epicenters, as well the world-traveling exhibition “Waist Down,” featuring more than a hundred skirts designed by Miuccia Prada. In 2012, Sho led the completion of a shop-in-shop for Coach at Macy’s Herald Square as well as their Omotesando flagship.

Mr. Shigematsu graduated in 1995 from the Department of Architecture at Kyushu University, Fukuoka. After studying at the Berlage Institute Amsterdam (Postgraduate Laboratory), he joined the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in 1998. Shohei Shigematsu speaks regularly on the research and ideas that shape his work. Recent lectures have been held at TED conferences in Edinburgh and New York as well as universities throughout the Americas and Japan. He is currently a design critic at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
