Analyze This: A Panel Conversation on Ethics and Privacy in Learning Analytics
With the growing importance of learning analytics in higher education, the ethics and privacy issues around learning analytics have become important for instructors and students to consider. What ethical requirements do researchers and institutions have for protecting student data? What is the institutional obligation to inform students once the institution “knows” something about academic performance; and how do students respond? How does learning analytics avoid being “creepy”?
All are invited to participate in this third session of the MLibrary Learning Analytics Series and investigate the answers to these questions and more. Chanel Beebe (Engineering Student), Lisa Emery (ITS), Mika LaVaque-Manty (Political Science & Philosophy), Cynthia Shindledecker (IRB), and Stephanie Teasley (Information & USE Lab) will participate in a panel conversation exploring these questions and will also engage in a dialogue with attendees. Light refreshment will be served.
