SPECIAL EVENT-Harrell Fletcher: Social Practice

Special presentation at MOCAD:
Saturday, November 8, 1:00 pm
Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit
4454 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI

Harrell Fletcher has worked collaboratively and individually on a variety of socially engaged, interdisciplinary projects for over fifteen years. A hallmark of his work is the transformation of everyday experiences and objects of community residents into curated exhibitions. He began his first project during graduate school in Oakland, Calif, where he and a friend created exhibitions about the local neighborhood. Since then, Harrell has built a wide array of socially engaging projects that have been featured in museums such as San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Berkeley Art Museum, The Royal College of Art in London, and the Whitney Museum. In 2002, Fletcher started Learning To Love You More, an ongoing participatory website with Miranda July, and a book version of the project was published by Prestel in 2007. Fletcher is a Professor of Art and Social Practice at Portland State University.

In partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD).
