Science Café: Sports and Brain Injuries

What is the long-term impact of so-called "high-impact" sports, such as football and hockey, on the brains of athletes? Can coaches, doctors and and athletic programs make these sports safe - or safer - for athletes of all ages? Explore some interesting studies on concussions and sports impacts and discuss how these data may affect best practice, treatment and prevention. Join U-M Department of Kinesiology Professor Steven Broglio, Director of U-M's Neurosport Research Laboratory; Darryl Conway, Associate Athletic Director for Student Athlete Health and Welfare; and Dr. Jeffrey Kutcher, Professor of Neurology in the U-M Medical School and Director of Michigan NeuroSport.

Science Cafés provide an opportunity for audiences to discuss current science topics with experts in an informal setting. All Science Cafés take place at Conor O’Neill’s Traditional Irish Pub, 318 South Main Street, Ann Arbor. Hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 PM; program 6:00-7:30 PM.
