What's Wrong with Racial & Other Social Injustices?
Philosophy is not merely concerned with working out theories of justice for perfectly just societies. It also has something to say about how we should pursue justice in the real world, and about the challenges we face in doing so. This panel will address these issues from a pragmatist, social democratic, and critical race theory perspective.
Elizabeth Anderson, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Philosophy, University of Michigan. Her research focuses on ethics, social and political philosophy, feminist theory, social epistemology, and the philosophy of economics and the social sciences.
Derrick Darby, Professor of Philosophy, University of Michigan. His research focuses on social and political philosophy, focusing especially on questions about the source and value of rights, informed by the legacy of race and racism in the United States social.
Gregory Pappas, Professor of Philosophy, Texas A&M University. His research focuses on pragmatism (Dewey, James), ethics, Latin American philosophy, philosophy of technology, and socio-political theory.
