Ninth Annual Chang Lecture on Art and Medicine

Dr. Pierre Mouriquand is a Professor of Claude-Bernard University in Lyon and Head of the Department of Paediatric Surgery in Lyon University Hospi-tals (Hôpital Mère-Enfant) since 1998. His main focus is paediatric urology and more specifically uro-genital surgery. He was trained as an urologist and paediatric urologist in Lyon. He has published many original and teaching articles in paediatric urology and has been a co-editor of several textbooks of paediatric surgery and paediatric urology. He was one of the founding members of the European Society for Paediatric Urologists (ESPU) and the Journal of Pediatric Urology. His interest in the arts comes from his family where several members were painters and photographers in Lyon area.

The subject of this lecture is an amble along the river Rhône from its source in Switzerland down to the Mediterranean sea, meeting some of the artists who painted the river itself and some famous doctors who contributed to the history of medicine.

This lecture series was established in honor of the extraordinary Chang family who link art and medicine. Dr. Cheng-Yang Chang was the first pediatric urologist at UM and a steadfast supporter of the Urology Department. Son of the esteemed Chinese painter Ku-Nien Chang, Dr. Chang funded “The Shirley Chang Gallery of Chinese Art” in the UM Museum of Art expansion, in honor of his late wife.
