Much of a Muchness
150 Years of Artistic Visions of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-glass
Learn more about the illustrations found in Lewis Caroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There" from Arnold Hirshon, Associate Provost and University Librarian at Case Western Reserve University.
The Alice books had a profound effect on the history of book illustration in general. What sets them apart is that as they became the most known, respected, republished, analyzed, parodied, abridged, appropriated, and adapted works of literature in the world, illustrators were drawn to the complexities of the text. No other books (save perhaps the Bible) have been such an inspiration for illustrators.
Refreshments will include tea and birthday cake, so come and celebrate your unbirthday with us!
Allow time to view the exhibit Curiouser and Curiouser: Exploring Wonderland with Alice which will be open 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on the 7th floor of the Hatcher Library.
