The Michigan Linguistics Club is an academic and social forum for all students who are interested in language and linguistics. Hang out on the cozy fourth floor of Lorch Hall with friends who won’t roll their eyes when you geek out about the etymology of the word ‘helicopter,’ the awesome morphology of Finnish, or the many writing systems of Japanese. Our meetings are weekly, and feature discussions and student presentations, language games, screenings of linguistically interesting films, and Q/A sessions with resident and visiting professors. Whether you’re in four Ling classes this term and need to bounce thesis ideas off someone, or you just think language is weird but, like, kinda cool (you’re right!), then check us out. This mass meeting is a chance to meet the crew, see what we mean when we say “Language Games,” and hear about some of the exciting things we’ve got planned for the year ahead—and give your suggestions too…Not to mention, enjoy some free food. helix + pter- from pterodactyl = spiral wing
