A Next Generation EHR for Primary Care or: how we learned to stop worrying and love Health IT
On Wednesday, September 9 at noon there will be a talk by Dr. James Ryan, DO, a family physician in rural Michigan, and Kevin Perdue, MS, on the topic: "A Next Generation EHR for Primary Care: How we learned to stop worrying and love Health IT.”
Dr. Ryan and Mr. Perdue have developed a hybrid approach to electronic health records (EHR) that resulted in a robust prototype for a problem-oriented, multimedia-integrated clinical system for collaborative care. In this talk, they will share what they have learned from using their prototype for one year in a small town primary care clinic.
Key details:
- “A Next Generation EHR for Primary Care or: how we learned to stop worrying and love Health IT”
- James Ryan, DO and Kevin Perdue, MS (Guest Speakers)
- Wednesday, September 9, Noon – 1 pm
- Palmer Commons, Floor 4, Great Lakes South
- Lunch will be provided
- An RSVP is optional but requested by Sept. 2
About the Speakers
James Ryan, DO, is a family physician in a rural solo practice in Michigan who has spent the past few years exploring experimental models of documentation and care coordination. Prior to his clinical work, he wrote multimedia software for performance art. Dr. Ryan’s current work involves two key elements: 1) audio and video recording of clinical encounters with a problem-oriented time stamping, and 2) root level patient collaboration which allows patients and their families the capacity to add and manage problems. Automatic annotation of media files, aside from facilitating human access, creates training sets for machine learning. Dr. Ryan’s goal is to make research in clinical systems more accessible to clinicians and their patients.
Kevin Perdue, MS, is a Client Services Manager at the Center for Implementation Science at Altarum Institute in Grand Rapids, MI.
This talk is sponsored by the Department of Learning Health Sciences.
