Screened in Korean with English subtitles.

Comrade Kim Young Mi is a North Korean coal miner. Her dream of becoming a trapeze artist is crushed by the arrogant trapeze star Park Jang Phil who believes miners belong underground and not in the air. Comrade Kim Goes Flying is a heartwarming story of trying to make the impossible possible.

A Belgian/UK/North Korean co-production, Comrade Kim Goes Flying premiered in 2012 at the Toronto International Film Festival and at the Busan International Film Festival, becoming the first North Korean film shown to a South Korean public audience. This is North Korea’s first film made purely for entertainment and their first “girl-power” movie.
