Transitioning into a Professional Role

Presenters: Allie Harte and Tynishia Walker

Entering the professional world post-graduation or after a job change can be a difficult transition. As you develop your professional identity and learn to operate in a 9-5 world, you may find that your life and work isn’t exactly what you had expected or imagined. Your social circles change, you no longer have homework everyday, you might still be mistaken for a student at times, you don’t always know what your day holds after 5:00pm—it’s a time of many changes, and you’re not alone in these experiences.

You will learn to:

Identify who your colleagues and peers are at work and how you can rely on them
Determine strategies that will help you build your professional identity and brand
Identify mentors to whom you can reach out for help during your transition to professional
Use tools to effectively manage the communication differences in student vs. staff roles

You will benefit by:

Connecting with others experiencing a similar transition
Gaining tools to assess your career values, build your network, and reflect on your professional experiences
Having an increased understanding of the skills needed to reach a life/work fit that works for you

Audience:

Early career professionals transitioning into full-time roles at the university post-graduation or individuals moving to a professional role from a different industry or occupation

Cost
