WHAT HAPPENED TO CHENE STREET?
Marian Krzyzowski, U of M
Mr. Krzyzowski will be talking about the various ethnic groups that made up the once thriving Chene Street neighborhood in Detroit. Chene Street today is among the most devastated and de-populated blocks in Detroit. It also is where Mr. Krzyzowski grew up and the basis for the “Chene Street History Project,” which he launched in 2002.
As director of the Institute for Research on Labor, Employment and the Economy at U-M Marian Krzyzowski has worked extensively with community-based non-profits in Detroit. He was co-director of the U-M AmeriCorps program and worked with the Michigan Business Assistance Corps in the early 1990s.
This is the fifth lecture in a six-lecture series entitled “Detroit: Complex Past, Promising Present, Uncertain Future.”
