Anna Vallgårda: Giving Form to Computational Things
Anna Vallgårda: Giving Form to Computational Things
Wednesday October 21, 5 - 6 pm
Stamps Auditorium, Walgreen Drama Center (http://www.music.umich.edu/about/facilities/directions.htm)
Abstract:
Interaction design is in the middle of a material turn where the computer is no longer at the center of attention. The computer is only one out of many materials which constitutes the computational things we design and use. As a result what we design is not merely interfaces to well-known physical forms and forms of interaction. Instead interaction design has become a form-giving practice in which we have to deal with both physical form, temporal form, and the interaction gestalt. This talk will look at interaction design as a formgiving practice and through exampels show what the negotiations between the trinity of forms will entail in practice.
Bio:
Anna Vallgårda is an Associate Professor and Head of the IxD lab at ITU, Copenhagen. She holds a master in Computer Science from University of Copenhagen, did her PhD in Interaction Design at ITU and her Post Doc at the Swedish School of Textile. Her research focuses on developing interaction design as a material practice through constructive design research. http://akav.dk
This lecture is made possible by the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design, the Stamps MDes Program, and ArtDes 150 “Art & Design in Context” Guest Lectures.
