Iowa-born, Santa Monica–based singer-songwriter Dan Bern is a modern-day Lenny Bruce: topical, intelligent, and totally unpredictable. Says the Baltimore Sun: "He's a folky troubadour with a rock-and-roll heart and the all-too-rare skill of combining humor and intelligence." Dan tends to alternate between documenting the zeitgeist and writing about the personal concerns with which we all grapple, and he's overflowing with songs: his full-length albums often alternate with EPs that offer fascinating windows on his soul (his concerts are a good place to pick those up). Dan Bern's songs are direct, often very amusing, and always on target musically. He's got a strong surrealistic streak, a major strand of Dylan's influence, and a great storyteller's eye. Come by and pick up a copy of Dan's new novel, "10,000 Crappy Songs & Other Tales of Detection," which includes 22 non-crappy songs!
