Building Effective Community Partnerships
Part of the Ginsberg Center's Learning In Community workshop series
Are you currently engaged in social justice or service-learning work? How strong is your relationship with your community partners? Do you want to know what steps can be taken to develop an authentic and trustworthy partnership? Join staff from 826Michigan, the Peace Neighborhood Center, and the Ginsberg Center to discuss and practice strategies for engaging in effective relationships with community partners to promote social justice.
Through discussions and activities with Ann Arbor community organization leaders, you will learn how to prepare for service-learning or social justice work, communicate with partners about their goals and your role in achieving them, determine realistic expectations for working together, and foster trustworthy and ongoing relationships. During the workshop, you will have the opportunity to not only learn these skills, but also practice them through working with a team to respond to real-life scenarios.
The Learning from the Community Workshop Series supports students who are interested in community service, advocacy, activism, and social justice. Participants gain knowledge of the root causes behind social issues, and the skills to work with others across social and cultural differences to support positive social change. Participants have the chance to learn from professionals from local community organizations and from their fellow U-M student leaders. Learn more here: ginsberg.umich.edu/article/workshops
