This presentation will provide a brief overview of the root causes of sexual violence with a specific focus on college campuses. Specifically, the presentation will
review the current definitions and prevalence rates of violence, delve into the socio-cultural factors that contribute to sexual violence, discuss theoretical frameworks that have been used
to gain a broader understanding of sexual violence and critically examine prevention and intervention programs to combat it.

Dr. Michelle Munro-Kramer is Assistant Professor, Department of Health Behavior and Biological Science, U of M School of Nursing. Her program of research focuses on trauma, comprehensive care of vulnerable populations and missed opportunities for care within domestic and international contexts. Her research projects approach these topics using a trauma-informed and patient-centered lens. She uses mixed methods and participatory action research to understand the experiences of vulnerable populations in order to inform future intervention developments.

This is the fifth in a six-lecture series. The subject is "Violence: Its Roots and Reasons." The next lecture will be February 11 entitled "The Decision to Go to War in a Democracy."
