Dr. Saxonhouse will discuss the question of responsibility or who should be held accountable when states decide to go to war. She will use specific incidents from Athenian history and from Shakespeare’s play, "Henry V." She will address the implications of various answers to the question for our understanding of justice and democracy.

Dr. Saxonhouse is the Caroline Robbins Collegiate Professor of Political Science and Women’s Studies and former chair of the Department of Political Science, U of M. She earned her doctorate at Yale University and has published widely in the area of classical and early modern political thought and women in the history of political thought.
