"Feasting on a 'Chocolate-Covered Tarantula': The Siege of Jerusalem in Annus Domini Time" is an excerpt from the second chapter in my currently in-process book monograph, Sacred Matters: The Medieval Postcolonial Jew, In and Out of Time. This paper considers the temporal ruptures that emerge among pagan, Christian, and Jewish time in the Middle English Siege of Jerusalem and, in particular, in the actions and characterization of Titus, Vespasian, Marie, and Josephus.
