Two one acts operas; reduced versions of Rossini’s La Cenerentola (Cinderella), sung in Italian with English supertitles, followed by Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, sung in French with English supertitles. Both undergraduate and graduate level students in Robert Swedberg’s Opera Studio program have worked together to offer these two operas under the musical direction of Timothy Cheek and Steven McGhee.
Green Operas have been developed as a means of considering more sustainable rehearsal and production elements in the presentation of opera, including the use of recycled materials for musical scores, costumes, scenery and properties, no printed marketing materials or programs (social media and websites instead), as well as the use of LED lights and projected scenic elements.
