Kenneth Kiesler, conductor, Freda Herseth, mezzo-soprano, U-M Women’s Glee Club, Ann Arbor Youth Chorale. Mahler said, “A symphony must be like the world; it must embrace everything.” The Third Symphony, his longest and most optimistic, embraces military marches, dance music, and sounds of nature to create its own optimistic realm, bringing the USO’s season to an uplifting finale.
