Matt Kavaler is Professor of Art History at the University of Toronto and Director of the Centre for Reformation and Renaissance Studies at Victoria College in the University of Toronto. A specialist in northern European art of the early modern period, he is the author of Pieter Bruegel: Parables of Order and Enterprise (Cambridge 1999) and of Renaissance Gothic: Architecture and the Arts in Northern Europe 1470-1540 (Yale 2012), as well as various essays on ornament and periodization in Late Gothic architecture. The topics of his current research includes Netherlandish sculpture of the sixteenth century.
