The Mysteries of Mind Wandering -- please note room change
Professor Sripada, holding a joint appointment in both Psychiatry and Philosophy at the University of Michigan, will be giving a talk on "The Mysteries of Mind Wandering" this Sunday in the Michigan League. His research interests range from Adult Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder to Substance Use Disorders, and his publications are as eclectic as they are interesting, including papers on Will Power, Free Will, and Self Expression. More information on Professor Sripada can be found on his website. Sunday's talk will be on the following:During idle moments, and too often when we are trying to focus on something else, our minds spontaneously start to wander. The contents seem somewhat random and unconnected: recent memories, prospections into the future, inner speech. Over the last decade, mind wandering has emerged as an important topic in cognitive science. In this meeting, we'll talk about some emerging theories about what mind wandering is, what it is for, and why we do so much of it. Join us for the talk, followed by audience Q&A. Food will be provided.
