Former Nike Garment Worker Speak Out At University of Michigan
Who: Noi Supalai, former union President and Nike garment worker from Bangkok, Thailand; United Students Against Sweatshops
What: United Students Against Sweatshops is conducting a nationwide “Nike: Just Do the Right Thing” speaking tour featuring Noi Supalai, a Thai garment worker and former union President who will talk about the hardships she experienced producing apparel for brands like Nike, and the need for independent factory monitoring.
This event is the latest in USAS’s campaign to get the University of Michigan to reconsider its new upcoming contract with Nike unless the brand agrees to allow independent labor watchdog organizations, like the Worker Rights Consortium, to access and inspect its factories around the world. Nike shouldn’t be allowed to hide its sweatshop conditions - let’s make sure our University takes a stand for workers who make our Wolverine apparel!
This speaking tour event will be an incredibly powerful and rare opportunity for students and faculty to speak directly with a worker who can talk about the harsh realities of producing University apparel abroad, and how students can help with their struggle for justice. We hope to see you there!
When: Monday, March 28 at 6pm
Where: 3330 Mason Hall
