Performing traditional music of Trinidad and Tobago, steelworks brings a flavor of the Caribbean islands with traditional calypso and soca music as well as reggae, popular and jazz tunes. Band leader Shane Jones is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree with a Graduate Certificate minor in World Performance Studies at U-M, where he is the World Percussion Instructor. He has studied and performed in Brazil, China, the Caribbean, West Africa and across the US. Chelsea Tinsler also plays steel drum, Patterson McKinney is on bass, and Andrew Grossman, drums. This concert is part of Gifts of Art’s UMHS Summer Courtyard Concert Series.
