Michigan's Breathe Owl Breathe has roots in indie, classical, and traditional music. They play original songs that combine vocals, guitar, percussion, and more, including cello from Ann Arbor's classically trained Andréa Moreno-Beals. They describe their music as "spirit-rock." Breathe Owl Breathe's songs have a kind of economy that makes them timeless-seeming yet disarmingly fresh. It's a totally new sound, floating between post-rock and folk, and it's been winning Breathe Owl Breathe well beyond Michigan. With roots in the northwest lower Michigan town of East Jordan, Breathe Owl Breathe has an entrancing sound that's completely their own. "At last, some music in the folk tradition that is new and refreshing, something an old music critic like me is always looking to find," says Allmusic.com founder Michael Erlewine.
