Prisoners Creative Arts Project
Hosting an Art Exhibition and Literary Journal
The Prison Creative Arts Project (PCAP) was founded in 1990 with the mission to collaborate with incarcerated adults, incarcerated youth, urban youth and the formerly incarcerated to strengthen our community through creative expression. Annually, PCAP hosts one of the largest prisoner art exhibitions in the world and publishes a literary journal of writing by incarcerated authors. Janie Paul is an associate professor at the UM School of Art and Design and the School of Social Work. She received UM’s Harold R. Johnson Diversity Award in 2007 for her work with PCAP and Detroit Connections. Buzz Alexander, Founder and Member of PCAP and Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of English at UM, was named by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education as the National Winner of the 2005 Professor of the Year for Doctoral and Research Universities. This lecture is for adults 50+.
