Saturday Sampler Tour | Letters from Karanis
The University of Michigan excavated the town of Karanis, Egypt from 1924-1935. During the excavation, papyrus scrolls were discovered containing tax rolls, temple records, grain yields, and family feuds. Yes, families fought with each other by sending long-distance messages on papyrus scrolls! On this interactive tour, we will explore everyday objects from Karanis and hear snippets of these ancient (exasperated!) family letters.
