Civil Rights in a Constitutional Democracy
A Balancing Act
What kind of government structure do we have? The Hon. Donald E. Shelton explores the nature of our constitutional democracy and how it affects our lives.
The first ten amendments to the Constitution describe several civil rights, but how expansive are they and how much can the government curtail our rights to privacy and freedom? We’ll focus on the balance that the courts have tried to strike between the duty of the government to keep us safe and the individual rights of its citizens.
This study group for those 50+ will meet for 90 minutes on Wednesday, November 9.
Instructor Donald Shelton directs the Criminology and Criminal Justice Program, UM-Dearborn.
