Department Colloquium | Nonlinear Waves: Solitons at age 50 and …

Mark J. Ablowitz (University of Colorado)

Physics Physics
Physics
The study of nonlinear waves is filled with many remarkable discoveries, one of them being ‘solitons’, found some 50 years ago. Solitons have become both a popular concept and are found in many areas of physics. They are solutions to many important equations in mathematical physics. Dispersive shock waves, in which solitons play a role, will also be mentioned.
