The Poetry of the Tang and Song Dynasty

The Book of Songs and The Book of Documents are the sources of the authentic tradition of Chinese culture. The Book of Songs is the most important document in The Six Classics. China is a country of poetry, and boasts an enduring tradition of over three thousand years, spanning from the Book of Songs, followed by the Chu ci, the Music Bureau poems, poetry of the Tang dynasty, ci poetry of the Song dynasty, and qu poetry of the Yuan dynasty.
Professor Linghui Tu is a Chinese National Class-One Performer. She has won the 4th Plum Blossom Award for Chinese Theatre and the 1st Wenhua Performance Award with the Gan Operas The Injustice Done to Dou E and The Story of the Wooden Hairpin. She is a professor at the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts and the director of the Operatic Art Education Centre and Continuing Education Department. Tu has also directed Chinese operas, among which two have been awarded Class-one Performance Awards. Currently, she is a visiting professor of Theatre at Binghamton University and the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute Chinese Opera at Binghamton University.
Beijing Opera Costume Exhibit at the Michigan Union’s Willis Ward Lounge, 1st Floor
Exhibit time: 10 am – 6 pm, Wednesday, November 18, 2016
Bejing Opera costumes will be displayed for one day at the Michigan Union, which includes robes, make up, masks, and props.
