“I took myself for a walk for a while:” Children Making Meaning Through Story
What Can We Learn from Their Storytelling
Fairy tales, fables, picture books and stories about real life: adults use all kinds of narrative to teach children important lessons. But what is it the children hear when they listen to all those words?
In this interactive workshop we will make our way through an alphabet of stories told by children. As we explore the meaning-making they do through story, we will strengthen our own creative and critical thinking skills.
For 20 years, Instructor Resa Matlock has been collecting, connecting and nurturing children’s stories, using the work of Vivian Paley, kindergarten teacher and MacArthur “genius,” as a guide. This study group for those 50 and over will meet Wednesdays, 11-1, from October 3 – November 21.
