Meijer is a large, family ownedretailer based in Grand Rapids, Michigan with a strong focus on supporting their customers, team members, and communities. They operate more than 250 stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Wisconsin as well as large distribution centers in the region. Even though thecompany was founded more than 80 years ago in 1934, one of Meijer’s core values is competition. Through innovation, Meijer is committed to remaining flexible to win in the fast-changing retail marketplace.

In thisemployer challenge, Meijer will ask students, on a team of 2-4 people,to think outside the box and formulate a strategy for innovating Meijer’s approach to ecommerce with the goal of reaching a new generation of consumers. Students will need to think about industry trends, historical approaches to ecommerce, and the future of the industry to help Meijer stay competitive in this changing marketplace.

You want to connect with professionals and recruiters in a real-life case study
You want to enhance your analytic, team-building, presentation, and public speaking skills
You want to build your self-confidence

Bysigning up as a team of 2-4 students, you are responsible for applying on behalf of the team that you've created on your own. All participants must be U-M Ann Arbor undergraduate students. Only one application is required per group.

At least one member from each team MUST participate in the Employer Office Hours on Friday, October 28th from 12-12:30 pm EST (Zoom link to follow), so please plan on attending. If a team member cannot be there, your team cannot participate in this Employer Challenge.

All team members MUST be available to present their case to the employer via Zoom sometime between 1:00-3:30 pm EST on Friday, November 4th. Each team will sign up for a 15-minute time slot for their presentation/feedback in that window. It is the responsibility of the team to meet together and work on this project on their own time.

This application will close on Sunday, October 23rd at 11:59 pm EST. However, we encourage you to apply ASAP as this application may close early if many applications are received, as we will accept teams on a rolling basis. You will be notified if your team is selected to participateby Tuesday, October 25th at the latest. If you have any questions, please email uccexp@umich.edu.

Here's how Employer Challenges work:

CASE DISTRIBUTION: Wednesday, October 26th
- The UCC team will distribute the Employer Challenge Case video via email with Meijer sharing the details needed for your team to begin
- You will select your preferred final presentation time slots between 1:00 pm-3:30 pm EST on Friday, November 4th.

EMPLOYER OFFICE HOURS: Friday, October 28th from12pm-12:30pm
-At least 1 member from each team will attend this sessionto clarify any questions needed as your team is developing their presentation. This is a valuable part of the experience as it allows more engagement between students and employers.

DURING THE WEEK: October 26-November 3rd
- Student teams will develop a 5-minute pitch that addresses the Meijer case study
- You will select 1 team member to manage your slide presentation on Zoom. All team members may speak on the slides, but only 1 team member will be sharing their screen.

FINAL CASE PRESENTATIONS: Friday, November 4th (time slots will be scheduled between 1:00 pm-3:30 pm
-Student teams will give their 5-minute pitch to the Meijer reps via Zoom!(Please join the Zoom link 5 minutes before your scheduled presentation time and you will be placed in a waiting room until your presentation time)
- Teams will engage in Q&A with Meijer reps and receive feedback for 10 minutes on the content of the presentation, creativity, and overall presentation skills
- Resumes of participating students will be forwarded to the Meijer team

THE FOLLOWING WEEK
- The winning team will be announced!
